What's new

Game Thread: Utah Jazz @ NY Knicks 2/6/12, 5:30 MST

The ref's bad offensive foul call on Harris got us off to a bad start.
I tried to warn the guys about Lin. Is D'Antoni gonna turn Lin into the next Nash?
I never saw this Novak guy though... maybe the Jazz should have stuck a perimeter player on him to guard the 3 point shot.

Since when?

I think he was guarded by our big men, but he did all his damage from the 3 point line...
I'll bet a SF or Evans could have guarded him... easy to say in hindsight.

Without going into how bad the Jazz played last night, i would like to talk about Jeremy LIn. It is my supposition that Lin will not become the next hot young player in the league. I saw nothing last night that makes me believe that he is any sort of amazing talent at all, rather he is a decent young player with some smarts who has somehow found himself in the "zone" for two consecutive games. A big shot of confidence from somewhere or emotion that made him great for a few days. Jeremy Lin will now proceed to play himself back into his proper place as a decent role player at best. The folks who believe him to be the second coming can now please explain just what they see in him that will make him into a great player. Never have seen a player play so well without actually impressing me in any big way.

Probably just sour grapes on my part due to the fact that i am in no mood to talk about my own team at this juncture.

The refs have a huge influence.
Plays like when Harris drove in the beginning at an angle to the basket, and was called for an offensive as he brushed by the defender who was totally moving, in contrast to the play when Kanter had position, and Lin ran right into him , and the refs called the foul on Kanter... So, if Lin continues to get calls like that, yea, I think he could be good.

A few calls like that a game make a huge difference.

Luck is also a factor, the Jazz were still in it, until the Knick's smacked the ball going for a rebound, and it went right to Lin on the 3 point line, that was the play that finished the Jazz.

My comment was more about D'Antoni than Lin. I am not saying that Lin is going to be an Allstar, I just saw that he was getting into the lane and finishing in the last game. What do you see about him that tells you he is not that good?

And that is not different from any other PG with two legs all season long. I'm 64 and i think i could get into the lane and finish against the Jazz interior defense. well..... occasionally maybe.

What i saw was a heady young player with no great quickness, no great court vision (think Ricky Rubio) , a very average looking jump shot (think Keith McCloud ), no great handle, who was living a dream. Just didn't see any
great physical tools (talents) that were exceptional in any way. I will look really bad as a talent scout if i prove to be wrong. Willing to take that chance with this kid.

He is getting to the rim a lot in the half court sets and finishing or dishing in the last 2 games. I don't see a lot of guys doing that , except a few like Wade or that Chicago MVP. I'm not sure why more players can't do this, maybe it is dangerous. I guess other teams might adjust. We'll see. There certainly have been many players that have a few good games but don't manage to keep doing it every game, so you may be right.
