Playing someone that isn't ready to start 30+ minutes will ruin that player, just watching Kanter and Favors makes me think they will be good players, and make the Jazz a force for years to come.
Let's be real though, both are very young and have serious flaws on offense.
Kanter can't get off his shot half the time, and needs to be more aggressive underneath the basket. Favors needs to find a go to move, and improve his jump shot and, free throw shooting, and both seem to have a problem with ball security, which tells me the game is still too fast and needs to slow down for them.
What will help them develop the best is that they get meaningful in game minutes. When they have played well they've gotten the minutes.
I have a different perspective on Jefferson then most...
Without Al we have no offense. Al is the most consistent offensive threat on the team. Before some of you go and say something stupid, Millsap has not been as consistent throughout the year like Al. Millsap sometimes has trouble getting his shot off, last night showed that. When a player has as big of a responsibility on offense like Al does it takes away their defensive energy. Al is 6-10 280+ isn't athletic, even for a big. Because of this he is unable to cover as much space as other bigs. Even Kanter is more athletic then Al. I do think Al try's and gives effort on defense.
I think Al is key to Favors and Kanter's development. There isn't a better player to help Favors with his footwork, and teack Kanter how to get his shot of and still have a good look at the rim.
Do I think he should be traded.... Yes. Should he be traded during the season. No. To trade Al now would cripple the offense, and both Kanter and Favors would wear down, because they just aren't ready. What ever we get in return for Al would take longer to fit in to the team, and the team to the new player. The biggest reason not to trade Al now is it would mess with the team chemistry. We need to wait till after this season or next season to trade him. By then Favors and Kanter will be ready for more responsibility on offense. The team will have a full training camp and off season to come to terms with the trade and get acclimated to the new players and vice versa.
