Kendall Marshall - Our next PG Hope

I'll agree with you that the stat comparison as presented by pkm is not fair, but Marshall is not Kidd. Not even close. I'm sure it will take getting to the combine for you to realize that his physical and athletic attributes are not even in the same tier as Kidd. If he was Kidd lite as you say he would be a projected top 10 pick right now, and he is not.

Thank you - that's all I wanted to prove. I just hate people who bully their point across without proper analysis - just so that they can feel good about themselves.

Whether or not Marshall is ala Kidd or Kidd lite, or whoever, is up to opinion of course. But if he's going to do an "analysis" do it properly before criticizing others.

According to John he was told by Frank Layden at the end of his first season that if he wanted to stay in the league he would have to develop a shot. He worked that off season and came back with an excellent outside shot that kept defenses honest. This example actually supports the possibility of players improving, and fast.

Yes - simple common sense really!

WTF

Why don't you compare like with like then? Let's look at their 2 college years:

Kidd
1st year 3pt %: 28.6%
2nd year 3pt %: 36.2%
Average: 33%

Marshall
1st year 3pt %: 37.7%
2nd year 3pt %: 30.4%
Average: 34%

Comparing both their college years clearly showed Marshall shot better 3pt % wise than Kidd.

Of course Kidd shot better in his NBA career as a whole. That's what we call experience. Don't you think that players get better? What do you think when you draft someone and they just stay the same player throughout their career?

Give me a break.

Alright I give you the speed thing, but to just bully your point across without comparing like with like data is just ridiculous.

I'm not sure where you're getting your stats, but Marshall is shooting 28% from 3 for the year...while not being guarded. Dude only shoots when he's open. Maybe it's just me, but I'm very worried that his percentages are decreasing from last year, I mean, it's not like some people where their percentages decrease because they're not used to starting and being guarded, Marshall hardly ever has anybody playing pressure D against him. He shoots open shots. He just never makes them...you cannot have a guard on your team who can't shoot, not in today's NBA. To me, Marshall isn't showing the improvement that he needs to be showing when he absolutely knows that his shot has been criticized.

^^^ yep.

I love his passing. I can even overlook his shooting (Rondo), but I want a PG that can either shoot or blow-by a defender.

I know Rondo has a terrible outside shot, but he offsets that with a rare ability to get to the basket. He averages around 48% shooting in the NBA, which was also his lowest percentage in college.

Except for the fact that Marshall has been told by everybody that he needs to improve his 3-point shot, and it's gone from 37% to 28%. Meanwhile Austin Rivers got told the same thing, and it went from 32% in high school to 41% in college. Who's the showing improvement?

Draft Express. Look for yourself.

Here's one: Who has been reported to have the better work ethic?

I believe they're both reported to have good work ethics, at least as far as I know. I'm just saying that Rivers is showing improvement where Marshall isn't. It's something to think/talk about.

Rajon Rondo... except shorter, not nearly as long, not nearly as athletic, and doesn't rebound.

Oh boy.

I agree. Draft Express had Marshall at #19 on their board compared to Rivers at #20. May be you know something that they don't?

Meh...most mock drafts right now are in no way near what they actually end up being. You think a mock draft from February of last year had Bismarck Biyombo anywhere in it? Also while Givony generally does a pretty decent job, he's a noted Duke hater. I think even PKM would agree with me on that.

Sound better to you?

I was just trying to make sure everything was factual.

Not a huge supporter of Marshall, or against him in anyway. I'm highly intrigued by him though. He is definitely one of the better passers I have ever seen in college ball, especially at passing ahead on the break. If Kanter and Favors are the future, and they are able to outrun their matchups, Marshall + running big men could be a great combo.

Anyone following that kid from Ogden. Seems like Ogden is like playing in Russia, kid get's no exposure. But his shooting stats look pretty good - scoring 25 a game while shooting 48% from field, 45% from 3(!), 88% ft shooter. I try to find games to watch this kid but they are hard to come by, anyone live in Ogden and see this kid?

I've seen him play a couple times, my school is in the same conference as he is....he's a good player. Great shooter, definitely the leader of that team. That conference is just absolutely terrible though, so it's hard to tell if he's that good or if everybody else is that bad. I like him more than I liked Rodney Stuckey though (played in same conference).

Great scoring stats but can he pass that is what we need.
