Jefferson thinks Sloan can unleash the ‘Beast' that's been in him for "so long"

I'm not assuming anything about your race. Since you clearly didn't mean "ghetto" as a derogatory term toward Al Jefferson, what exactly DID you mean by it? Let me guess, you don't owe me or anyone else an explanation?

Maybe you have me on ignore or something, but I've already stated twice that "ghetto" is often used a slang term for "jury-rigged" or something improvised, made cheaply, of poor quality, etc. When used in that way I've never thought of it as having a thing to do with race.

Associating it with race is what is racist. Poor people come in all types. The ghetto is the inner-city areas where poor people live. Not all poor people are black and not all black people are poor.

Look yo, hopper and even CJ speak from a platform of high intelligence. It's mostly just a lack of comprehension (this is no slight that most people can't get past their 'personas' on this here board and read their words for what they're really saying.

Just cause they wrap their knowledge up in some sort of thing.. you have to just stop hating. For example, CJ hates "hoppers", not because they're black or 'hood' or whatever, but because of their general disrespect, their attitude, their ego.. skin color has NOTHING to do with it. White people, black people, asian people.. just because you read the words and associate it with a certain race.. well that is just on you as a person. The term "hopper" in these circumstances is meant to connotate a Lebron James type of attitude.. a sense of entitlement, a reckless form of basketball which does not result in wins, or ever good basketball. It comes down to positivity, zen, etc. If people are on board, not about showboating.. that's all they want, you know?

Of the players listed for not getting along with Sloan.. where are they now? I see the points being made.. if Sloan had been better equipped to deal with such players, could they potentially have had success? Did Sloan destroy their confidence? ..but since we know such players, how high were their celings in reality? AK, for example, was a stellar and unique force. But was he every truly a star? Let me put it this way... who has had more success, Sloan or AK? His method's might not be for all, but it seems a whole organization trusts in him. The Utah Jazz have had a ****-ton of success. How up and down would it be with a different coach?

You could argue it was simply a battle of power. What if KOC and the Miller's (who are..the powers that be) decided that Arroyo was the answer, and their non-getting-along was Sloan's fault, and that he screwed it up enough to be removed. Look at our star.. one of the best player's my generation of basketball viewers will see, D-will. He had his scuffles with Sloan, but guess what? D-will's intelligence, the same thing that allows him to be soo good on the court, convinced him to rise above it, to get with the program, and now look... where is he now? D-will fought Sloan for a year. Sloan fought D-will for a year. But now they work together. The 2 best minds on the court work together, why? Because its the most constructive and the best way to get it done.

The "urban dictionary" you cite, Game, gives 4 different definitions, to wit:

1)Area in which the ***** contained the jews prior to being taken to concentration camps (this definition is rarely used in daily discussion)
2)Poor area of town with public housing, a high minority population, and even higher crime rates
3)Relating to black culture
4)ajective or adverb relating to cheapness

Yet you say: "Associating it with race is what is racist." That seems to be definition 3. Or is 4 the one and only acceptable meaning now?

I don't have you on ignore Gameface. I saw your post, but I am confident that BOX did not have jury-rigged in mind when he was referring to Al Jefferson and his ability to speak "proper". He was insulting the man, and only he knows whether or not race had anything to do with it. But based on his name calling, I would say he doth protest too much.

It CAN be used in a racist way. I'm talking about it's use in pop-culture as a slang term. Definition 4 is what I'm talking about. You can apply the other definitions to it in context if you'd like.

I agree, Lance. That's exactly how I read CJ, too.

How about Post something like " toot it and boot it" And I'll promptly bestow the term gheto upon your out of touch self regardless of you skin color. Deal?

OK, Game, I understand. Most words have more than one meaning. Nonetheless, sometimes people want to insist that the meaning they have in mind at the time is the only possible meaning, insisting that anyone who uses the word in a different sense than they do is just "wrong."

I said he was gheto because I felt like it. Good?

I'm sure your the same kind of person that also voted "BUSH for PRESIDENT!!" Not once, but twice! Or you weren't old enough to vote during those days, and were raised (by what I can tell) staunch, "we are better than the majority because we are white" family. Am I getting close?? Your better because the majority of your family voted for bush, your grandparents voted for nixon. You don't even have to tell me your story. You need to do volunteer work helping those "ghetto people" like al jefferson (as you said) and while your doing it, try not to make fun of them. It may do you good to help out with the people in the world making under 250K a year. It may help you more to meet the brown and black people making more than 250 k a year. Then maybe you can crush your racist, brainwashed mind, of all the sh*t its been COATED with.

But here we have people assuming they know what BOX meant, even when he insists that is not what he meant. I'm providing an argument that it is POSSIBLE that he used the word in a way, and to mean something, other than what people are insisting.

It's kinda ironic that people use this very tactic to insist that what "they" say could not possibly be considered to be racist and to simultaneously insist that CJ's references to "hoppers" can only be racist.

I agree with you on this, Game.

wow! You spent all that time typing up that nonsense and you have no idea who I am. You sir recieve the loser of the day award and it's only 1245am. Congratualtions jerk off.

Gameface:

Taking a huge leap of faith and trusting that BOX wasn't referring to the color of his skin when calling him "ghetto", I think it is safe to assume that he wasn't being complimentary. The thing I find ironic is he makes this judgment about his ability to "speak proper" and can't seem to make a post that isn't littered with grammatical errors. If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is.

As I've already said, the thing I find most curious about Box's comments is his recomendation that Jefferson should "quit trying" because, he says, trying makes Jefferson sweat. Let's hope to Gawd that Jefferson does NOT "quit trying" the minute he undertakes an endeavor that makes him sweat.

I think certain assumptions about Jefferson underlie Box's recommendations. Just how he came to assume such things is unknown.

But here we have people assuming they know what BOX meant, even when he insists that is not what he meant. I'm providing an argument that it is POSSIBLE that he used the word in a way, and to mean something, other than what people are insisting.

Right. It's the most bizzare thing and in fact should be a self reflection of their own hang ups.
