What's new

Paul George

Thanks for the input. That's what she said.

But, relatively speaking, do you feel he's more gifted and skilled and has more upside at his position than Monroe, Aldrich or Udoh are? I'd say yes just from watching some highlights. His length at the 3 would be nice.

I would say yes, he has more potential upside over the long term than those three. Probably wouldn't be able to contribute as much in the first couple or so years as Udoh or Aldrich though.

I certainly wouldn't complain if the Jazz ended taking him (obviously being a fan of Fresno). I just think it's better value at a few picks later.

His measurements were disappointing, not anywhere near as long as say a Trevor Ariza, and he was the weakest SF in the bench press. And he decided not to test out in most of the other drills, which you have to question.

Also can you say too early? He should have gone back to Fresno, dominated the WAC than put in his name in the draft. He really hurt his stock coming out too early.

I don't necessarily disagree in saying should have stayed in school...but if anything his stock has improved since enter the draft. He was considered to be a top 20-25 pick when he first declared and now he may be going in the late lotto. Hard to argue with the decision when his stock has improved this much. But I guess you can't know for sure until draft night...

That said, I don't blame him for not wanting to go back. The coaching is just not very good...the talent isn't very well utilized at all. And Fresno has talent...because in addition to George, they had Greg Smith who will probably eventually be drafted in the first round (was a 4 star prospect out of high school). Smith also considered going to the draft likely because of the coaching but they were able to convince him he wasn't ready. In a weak conference like the WAC, two caliber players like that alone should put them in conference championship contention and they were nowhere even close to that.

It wouldn't have hurt him to come back and refine some things, because he'll be raw at the NBA level. But I just can't blame him for wanting to move on...

He was about 2 inches less long, and how nearly the exact same standing reach. Lets wait until we get his vertical and speed measurements before we say disappointing. I dont know how you can call a SG-SF "disappointing who is 6'9 with nearly a 9 foot standing reach. That would be great length to defend against Kobe.

I think he has shown enough that we need to bring him in for a workout or at least attend one where he is working out for another team.

He looks quite athletic but I don't see any sick fast twitch fibers and he actually seems to move mediocre to average laterally imo. Just something I've been thinking about.

I'm starting to wonder if the best outcome for the Jazz a year from now is to get a dynamic wing player in this draft--someone who can really shoot, handle and create, and expect to bring in Tomic a year from now. Of course, who knows what will happen with the lock-out, but I think the Jazz need both a big and a dominant wing to team with Williams.

Good observation. Do we get a backup PF or a starting SF? Or do the Jazz go with Aldrich (if available) or even Orton in an attempt to eventually match up against the Lakers.

If I'm KOC, I do everything I can to trade up. If that doesn't work, I see if Memphis or Minnesota want the #9 for their two 1st's.

Drafting a SF may mean the Jazz will try to dump AK and keep Boozer. I could certainly see Matthews/George/CJ getting 32 mins each at the 2/3.

I think we should draft him just so we can say that our 2 guard is taller than both our power forwards.

George is a smooth, natural scorer. I could easily see him getting drafted in the top 12, possibly even top 10. With his length, smooth stroke and mobility, he could be an ideal 2-guard. I think he has more upside than X. Henry. When the chips are down, a guy who's 6'8" or 6'9" with his smooth stroke could get off a big shot. Even better if he can handle a bit.

The Jazz should be trying to dump AK regardless, but AK can play some time at the PF also.

When they do a re-draft in 5 years, George will be a top 10 pick. Thus the reason that I'm fine with taking him at #9 if Monroe is off the board.

Playing AK and George together would probably make for the tallest set of wings in the NBA.

as some of you may know i've been on the paul george bandwagon for quite some time. i really REALLY want paul george but i don't think the jazz are smart enough to draft him if he's available. george is a legit 6'8 two guard.....6'7.5" w/o shoes 6'8.5 w/shoes and 6'11.25" wingspan. he is only 20, very athletic, good shooter, pure scorer, lots of upside, has the length on the wing to defend, and seems to be motivated. i think he will end up the 3rd or 4th best player in this draft. the jazz can't pass on a scorer with all star level talent to play in the backcourt with dwill. i'm hoping that george floors them in his workout and somehow ends up in utah

Thank you for defending why we should draft Luke Babbitt.

I agree and also think George will turn out to be a star. Would love it if Utah ended up going that direction. Hope they at least bring him in for a workout.

Agreed, Babbitt has a more polished all around game than George. George is going to take a couple years to develop his offensive game and may never get off the jazz bench if we drafted him at #9. His physical tools won't give him as much of a edge in the NBA that he got by playing in a mid major conference.
