What's new

#53--OKC @UTJ 9:00 PM ET, February 12, 2013 ESA, SLC

I know everyone is thinking it, so I'll ask it. I'm seeing improvement from Burks, now that he's in the rotation, what's going to happen once Mo and Hayward get healthy? The only way I see Burks getting minutes is if Ty makes either him or Foye the full-time back up pg, and honestly I think the jazz are wasting Burks talents if they make him the full time backup pg, but someone like a Harden that can take the playmaking pressure off of whoever is at pg like he did for Watson tonight.

Out of the Burks/Foye/Hayward/Carroll/Marv group Marv is easily the weak link here (at least as of now) and should see the bench. But knowing Ty that won't happen.

23 points on 22 shots is pathetic. Your stat is horribly overrated. PPS is a much better judge of efficiency.
.
We want players who are efficient on offense while being decent or better defensively. Al is neither.
I think at least three of those were end-of-the-shotclock desperation shots, though. I thought Big Al had a very nice game.

If the definition of a flagrant 1 is not making a play on the ball there is no question that was a flagrant 1. He just body checked him, mostly out of frustration.

Now watch us sleepwalk against the t puppies and end up losing to them by 15+.... Corbin will then go off on how he loves his team and that it's just one game.

Like i said, tinsley does that just about every game to stop a fast break (the body check foul)

Yeah but it the context of the game Durant was complaining to the refs for a non-call just seconds earlier - it was clearly done out of frustration, not just to stop a fast break. Of course pushing Carroll away didn't help either.

I will say Tinsley has had a couple borderline cases where I thought the refs might T him up or give him a flagrant.

From SLC Dunk:

"...Kanter's general toughness. (Which sadly isn't on the boxscore -- but he laid down the law after Kevin Durant thought he could punk Alec Burks and shurg off DeMarre Carroll. Kanter stepped up into the scrum and then every Thunder player's ********* retracted back into their abdomens.)"

Did I miss something about the altercation with Durant, Burks and Carroll. I saw Kanter kind of push into it a little but I did not see him really do anything. Did any Thunder players show they were intimidated by Kanter?

The only thing I saw was he restored order quickly. Not that they were intimidated by him, but he was calm and that made everyone else calm down.

The SLCDunk article also calls out Perkins for being a fake thug and going after nice players like Big Al. Says the reaction would have been much different if he threw that at Kanter or Favors.

I liked that Big Al, who gets criticized for his FG% more than anyone, still heaved a shot from full court at the end of a quarter. I think we would like him a lot more if we didn't see him as standing in the way of two #3 picks.

Anybody catch when Harpring said fans were really down on Burks early in the season?
Ummm, no Matt, we weren't. TY was down on Burks. Us fans were screaming for Burks to get PT.

Yeah, idk what Harp was thinking when he said that. How could we be down on Burks when he didn't even play till December?

About Carroll confronting Durant over his foul on Burks.

""You can’t get physical with us, especially not [with] the Dog," Carroll said. "... That’s what I do. I get scrappy and I get physical."

Said Carroll: "I just told him, ‘Don’t be playing dirty out here. If you’re going to play dirty, play dirty in the park. We’re not going to be playing dirty out here.’ "

Link? ;)

Stats can be misleading. He shot a lot but hit 50%. That stat isn't overrated. Don't we want players that are hitting shots at that rate to shoot. Let's face it Al doesn't play a power game. His great footwork is partly to blame, because he relies on it almost exclusively. If he had more of a power game he'd be an Allstar making max money. Face it Al had a good game on offense tonight.

23 points on 22fg.
thats not misleading that is chucking at a low conversion rate

33 minutes 23 points on 22fg with 7 rebounds at center is far from a good game

about 60% of the nba players could score 23 points on 22fg

Some people don't watch the game, they just opine from the stats.

Jefferson played a good game tonight, but some just can't handle that.

i watched the game. and al is fools gold.
does things that show up on stat sheet. and refuses or is incapable of doing things that dont show up on stat sheet.
23 points 7 rebounds seems nice.
but 7 rebounds at center is horrible.
23 points on 22fg is also horrible.

where was his defense.
his hustle
his diving for loosebalsl
wait those things dont show up in boxscore

i'm not seing improvement from burks.

injury bug just gave him consitent playing time.

this so called "improvement" was here all along. dont fall for harps PR that fans where down on burks

True, also if Corbin had broke up the pair this year, more people might be begging for everyone to come back. I'd still love to see Big Al and Favors start together to see if that is a front line that works.

I liked the attitude that Carroll showed immediatley sticking up for Burks in front of the OKC bench. I liked seeing Favors and Kanter rush over to stick up for Carroll. Kanter asserted himself right into the middle of it. If the kid can assert himself into a game like that, and somehow learn to jump he will be awesome.
