What's new

#53--OKC @UTJ 9:00 PM ET, February 12, 2013 ESA, SLC

What an awesome game, even watson played good.

The back to back 3's by tinsley were huge for the jazz in the first half..... westbrook wasn't guarding him at all before that point.
Millsap was awesome (i love the dunk attempt on ibaka even though he got stuffed.... great block by ibaka) jefferson was very good.
The bench as a unit was amazing, demarre carroll is becoming a fan favorite.... Right now i would take demarre over alot of other "hustle" guys in the league (tony allen types)
Burks is coming along nicely and has found his outside shot (lol when he tried to dunk on ibaka.... damn that would have been sick if he hadn't have gotten rejected)
Favors was solid, and kanter struggled a little but hustled his butt off and played good defense.

Im also worried about what happens to burks when the team gets healthy.
history shows he will be burried on the bench
getting inconsistent minutes being inconsistent. and ty lovers will say burks being incosistent is the reason he gets garbage time

I liked that Big Al, who gets criticized for his FG% more than anyone, still heaved a shot from full court at the end of a quarter.

I remember back in the late 90s, Tom Tobert (former NBA player) pointed out on his Bay Area radio show (Razor & Mr. T) that 90% of players wait until just after the buzzer to heave a shot lot that so that it doesn't count against there shooting percentage. Since then I always watch for that. He's right--the vast majority of players won't actually take a full court shot.

I think we would like him a lot more if we didn't see him as standing in the way of two #3 picks.

Excellent point. I was reading something a couple of days ago about NBA draft picks. Something like 60% of players who were top 5 picks become all stars. Favors and/or Kanter sure won't until they get a chance to play more!

Did anybody else hear 1280 this morning about the incident with OKC bench (specifically KD) and Jazz fans harassing them?

I was listening when they were asking for people to text/call in if they were close enough to know what the fans had been saying. Did they ever figure that out?

23 points on 22fg.
thats not misleading that is chucking at a low conversion rate

33 minutes 23 points on 22fg with 7 rebounds at center is far from a good game

about 60% of the nba players could score 23 points on 22fg

If most of the centers in the NBA could than they would. Most players on non playoff teams want good stats to get paid, if they could score 23 points a game shooting 50% (1 of those shots was a full court heave another was a heave from around the three point line with no time on the clock when the ball was passed to him with 1 sec on the clock) that would happen more from them. If you dont think Al Jefferson has been playing well offensively lately than you clearly have your hate goggles on. Last night he was double teamed almost every time he shot the ball. That is why our gaurds were so wide open. Knock on Jefferson for his defense, knock on the coaches for the offense that runs through him even but you cant knock his play on offense lately. Last night he was one of the major reasons for winning that game and he has kept us in games for most of the month. Yes he might be standing in the way of other players development but that is on the coaches not him. All Jefferson is doing is playing well enough to make it hard on our coaches to sit him, or else they would. In February he has averaged 20 and 9 on 53% shooting.

It is hard to trust someones opinion when they just bag on a player and have nothing good to say about him.

You say you watched the game (which I doubt) and say his 7 rebounds stat is horrible. Well the guy guarding him who is a center for a top team in the nba whos only job is to play defense and rebound got 1 rebound. Their PF who is considered a top defender in the league and a great rebounder got 3 rebounds. Jefferson got 4 offensive rebounds which shows he was hustling and boxing out better than usual. When Milsap got stripped for the third time in the game trying to go one on one who dove for the ball and got the jump ball? Jefferson, he was hustling and he was playing decent defense. Its not like the guys he was guarding scored at all.

Yes.

Some Utah fans spilled beer all over his wife and mom. Which is weird because I always thought that only BYU alumni and fans could afford lower bowl tickets.

even if we take away thos eshot al is still turrible inefficent

Thanks for the charles barkley turrible impression but scoring on 11 out of 20 shots is not inefficient especially when clearly Jefferson was clearing space for the rest of our team to get good shots off by drawing in double and triple teams.

I distinctly remember a nationally televised game where Brevin Knight heaved up a shot and hit it from at least 3 quarters after purposely holding it after the buzzer. I can't remember who the color guy was, I think Hubie Brown, but it struck a chord with him and he proceeded to rip Knight a new one.

no matter how you try to justify it (taking away supposed 2 shots, heave at the buzzer. and some winding down shotclock 3)
jefefrson has the lowest points/fg ratio on the team.

HE SUCKS.
every nba player could take 16fg and avg 17.5 points per game. (okay maybe not every single one but i bet you about 60-75%)

Considering that teams shoot ~43% a game.

Jefferson shooting 50% is more efficient than the average.

Dutch just can't see past his hate, everyone (or almost everyone) that is saying anything remotely good about AJ doesn't mean they can't see his flaws or his bad games. Just in THIS game it may not be the best time to bag on AJ, he did shoot 50% so shot efficiently but his overall offense was not as efficient. He did help hold the opposing bigs to well below their avg rebounds and he shot 50% against 2 top defenders in Perkins & Ilbaka.
You can say non negative things and still want to trade him or not like him, it's called giving credit.

The flagrant on durant probably should not have been a flagrant... i see tinsley commit a foul like that in almost every game to stop a fast break. It was just a good hard foul.

Loved the way carroll stuck up for burks after the foul though.
If he even acted like he went for the ball it would not have been. As it was I think it deserved it because he made no effort to even look like he was doing anything but body checking Burks.

I just saw this post game clip with Westbrook. I don't know if it has floated around the board yet.
