I read another good deterrent is to keep your car keys by your bed. Then if you hear something in the home your press the "panic" button on the key fob.
Also maybe karate classes?
Krav maga all the way.
Trust me. if you do krav maga twice a week within 2 years you will be able defend yourself from the most common attacks.
if you got a great krav maga instructor. within 3-4 years training twice a week for an hour. you will learn to sruvive.
btw are there any krav maga schools(dojo) in utah?
Not sure. Maybe up north but that can be some hard core stuff if done right.
nah look not to rag on the american krav maga association.
but that one is pretty wattered down.
the head of the organization went to israel in the 80's. for 3 months or so. and then he set up the krav maga association.
i have been doing krav maga for 5 years atleast twice a week.
went to training camps10 days training 8 hours a day for 20 days, and every single day when i train with the israelis i learn something new.
so there is no way that the american krav maga got to "master" in 3 months that he went to israel.
after he went to israel he had a falling out with them. he patented krav maga or something like that. and cut ties with israel.
so if you go train krav maga i would suggest KMG, IKMF or IKM association. there are not a lot of those in the us yet.
but the legal battle with the israel federations(KMG, IKMF, IKM and some others) and the US federation(krav maga worldwide) is over.
so now the Israelis are breaking through in the american market.
what i'm saying is with the right federation hardcore training is not really needed.
my fiance does not do hardcore training. but she can safe herself when needed.
Never worried much about keeping the kids out of the beer. One time my youngest grabbed a tall boy & went chugging on momma's lap. Scared her enough to fix that problem. She did get a good night's rest for the first time in 22 months though.
I keep me and my family safe by not having anything anyone would want to steal. A thief would be very disappointed if he broke into my house, very very disappointed.
I wouldn't get a dog for protection, mainly because if it is trained to be aggressive towards an intruder it will need to have aggressive tendencies and I wouldnt want that around my child.
I imagine a rubber bullet gun would probably do the trick, but hell if someone is in my home and I feel threatened I'd rather shoot them with a real gun. Just to be safe.
If you are looking for an alarm, there are many breeds that will do. Our beagles bark even when it's one of us coming home, but don't attack.
I don't know anyone who has a dog over 5 pounds that would even bark if an intruder came in. Stupid mutts.
Im looking into getting some self defense items for the home and my wife. We already have an alarm system and when my kids get a bit older we will be purchasing a lab sized dog. But I would like to get something for in the home and on the go for my wife. The first thought of course is getting a gun but my wife isn't fully comfortable with having one in the home and keeping one in her purse or car. So what are some other options we could use?
The ones I have thought of are:
-taser gun
-mace
-knife
Also I was looking for some time of a rubber bullet gun that Ive heard about. Basically they hurt like hell but most likely won't kill the person.
Anyway any info you guys have would be great. Thanks.
I have this but only in backyard.I've heard that flood lights for the outside of your house are about the best deterrent you can get.
We've got an Australian Shepard x lab cross that barks like a son of a bitch when it hears the front door open or a strange voice. He's a big enough dog that when he barks you would wonder how big and what kind. That said, he barks as he's backing up to hide. If you did decide to enter the premises he'd hide under the bed and bark while you robbed me blind. Stupid mutts.
kids drinking beer become teens smokin' pot become neighborhood retailers dealin' stuff that attracts all the scum robbin' to support their addictions.
Run a tighter ship and stay off the drug-stealers' radars.
lifestyles like this will also keep stock brokers stretching their suspenders; if you can evade being robbed by these thieves, you stand a fair chance of having kids willing to quarrel over the Estate.

Details? I want to learn. PM me maybe, or better, put a chapter on this in your Longest Thread Ever, please and thank you. My broker just cost me a big chunk this week, I want to find out if others have similar experiences.
Krav classes are $120 per hour, per session with a good trainer out my way. No problem. At twice a week, we're only looking at a little over $10,000 a year for some Krav training that we will likely never use. Sounds like a brilliant investment.
