Boston Marathon explosions......

Bombs like this go off almost daily around the world and nobody cares. It happens in the US and it becomes one of the biggest news stories and "tragedy".

Anyone else see the hypocrisy?

Not hypocrisy, I care much more about America than I do about the Middle East, but it is a sobering thought to think they have to deal with this like once a week for the past decade.

My buddies grandma died. I told him I was sorry about it, but really it didn't affect me much. I'm such a hypocrite because I literally cried when my grandma died.

Well this is America so it is more immediate and in some cases we personally know those affected.

I am sure media in Spain, Iran, Iraq, South Africa, China focus more on their tragedies than those in far away places.

Not hypocrisy, relevancy.

Are you an idiot?

The nightly news reports bombs, tragedies, and other terrorist acts nearly every single day. Even moreso if you visit websites such as the Huffington Post, USA Today, NPR, AP news, etc.

It's not our fault that you don't pay attention.

I really liked this:

[video]https://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/425527/april-16-2013/intro---4-16-13

This was a good message by Colbert. Good mix of humor and seriousness.

besides, many of those incidents are happening in places that are war zones or at least areas where two or more factions are fighting for control, and often it's not a democratically elected government but an area where the ruling party has taken over by force. It's a little different situation here.

And even so, we hear of these types of incidents all the time.

Of course I pay attention jackass. How else would I know that this sort of thing happens ALL THE TIME.

Point is nobody cares if it happens in Pakistan, Afghanistan or some other crap hole country other than getting a 2 minute mention on the news. It's happens in the US and it becomes a tragedy and dominates the news. Oh my god how could this ever happen?

Do they look Middle Eastern? Hope these bitches are caught soon.

From the video they looked multi-ethnic, but I'm really bad at putting people on their specific ethnicity.

I wonder what evidence they have of suspect #1 being involved. From the press conference all the information centered around suspect #2 ( white hat) planting one of the bombs. His back pack looks full where as the other guys doesn't look quite as full.

Edit: If they have video of him planting the bomb, any reason they don't release it??

First of all, I wouldn't say that NO BODY CARES if it happens in other places. Americans might be incredibly ignorant in many cases. Yes, we may really suck at teaching different languages too. But we're about as altruistic as they come. You don't see Brazil, Mexico, Canada, China, Australia, or France donate near the time, manpower, or money in foreign aid as the United States. Hell, I could see one making a case for our country being more considerate of foreign countries and peoples than our own.

However, I think you're an idiot if you think that these types of tragedies should get as much or more air time than domestic ones. This is the case in every country. Domestic issues/tragedies/triumphs will almost always be emphasized more than foreign ones.

Lastly, you need to consider the media in those other countries. Often, they prevent or misreport these types of tragedies. Or rather, their governments don't allow the tragedies to be reported. They don't want information to get out. Especially in places like the Middle-East, Northern African, or N. Korea. I'm sure our media would love to report hours upon hours of folks suffering in N. Korea. Unfortunately, their government has made it impossible to do any reporting there.

Anyway, I just feel you're trying to make a mountain out of a moehill. People aren't abusing American Exceptionalism in this case.

Just a guess but suspect #1 is wearing his backpack correctly so the weight is distributed evenly. Suspect 2 is doing the over one shoulder thing so it looks heavier.

I also notice that they happen to be walking the same speed. After walking many years though the busy streets of NYC you learn that no two people walk the exact same speed unless they're walking together.

Go watch afghani news and I bet you it is the opposite.

What does a 6 quart pressure cooker weigh? Add to that shrapnel, ball bearings and explosives plus detonator and I'm willing to bet you're staring at 30 lbs. or so. Does either one of those suspects look like they are lunking around a 30 lb. dead weight? Especially the one that has the pack slung over one shoulder.

Listening to the Boston Police, Fire and EMS public radio. Sounds like they have the suspects located and they're making a barricade around a two block radius and expanding it. Suspects have guns and explosives. All officers told to power down their cellphones so they don't happen to set off an explosive. Holy ****.
