Woman Sues CVS over Racial Slur

I have, and in exactly the why I just described: as the ones who benefit more. Naturally, when you benefit more, you have more to lose.

You have also described them as being racist by that same default.

Do these types of cases actually go to a trial of some kind? I know that in smaller claims court, the judge has the final say.

One article I read called it a federal discrimination lawsuit. So based on that and the high dollar amount, I'm sure this would get to a jury (if it's not settled first).

No, I have described all people as being racist, as a consequence of our being human and engaging in human cognitive shortcuts.

So if every last one of us is racist and we can't help it, why do you feel the need to point it out so damn much?

We can work to change it. I spend a lot of time second-guessing my reactions. In particular, as an instructor in a community college classroom, I need to make an effort to treat every student fairly. Because the racism/sexism I have learned from our culture, I make quick judgments about which students are serious, capable, etc. These judgments are often wrong. However, if I never take a step back and analyze why I made a particular judgment, that judgment colors every single interaction I will have with that student for the rest of the semester. My students deserve no less.

To quote a cliche, the first step in solving a problem is admitting you have one.

I freely acknowledge that racism is alive in well. On many different levels. I also acknowledge that not everyone is racist. I have met many people, of all races (I am using that to refer to Hispanic, Black, White, Asian and Arab), that are not racist. As I have have met some of all races that are.

*Except Asians. I have never personally met a racist Asian.

I would be somewhat annoyed and confront the person if I discovered it immediately, but if he/she apologized I wouldn't even bring the manager into the picture. That's as far as it should go. A million dollars? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

The person should be fired, thats not acceptable. But name calling isn't grounds for million dollar lawsuits.

I would go so far as to bet that 99% of the minority population would let you call them any racial slur of your choosing for 1 million dollars.

CVS refused to fire the clerk in question.

This guy agrees, man.

I went to school with a kid named Wai Suk Wang.

Believe me when I say he would have had a much happier childhood if his name was Ching Chong.

I worked with a Wan Wong. We teased him that his name was really Lan Long but he couldn't say that so he changed his name to Wan Wong.

Fire him, tell the lady to suck a fatty and get over it. No need to drag this on.

So, the person should have been fired, but since CVS didn't do the right thing, the woman shouldn't try to encourage them to do the right thing? That's your position?
