We can work to change it. I spend a lot of time second-guessing my reactions. In particular, as an instructor in a community college classroom, I need to make an effort to treat every student fairly. Because the racism/sexism I have learned from our culture, I make quick judgments about which students are serious, capable, etc. These judgments are often wrong. However, if I never take a step back and analyze why I made a particular judgment, that judgment colors every single interaction I will have with that student for the rest of the semester. My students deserve no less.

The person should be fired, thats not acceptable. But name calling isn't grounds for million dollar lawsuits.
