The NBA draft and the anticipation leading up to the NBA draft is one my favorite things about being a Jazzfan, especially when we are in the lottery. I don;t care who we draft, as long as the players we draft are impact players and fit a role/need for the team. I know that is making it overly simple, but we really just need to add pieces like OKC did when they drafted guys like Green and Serge (of course, serge has over accomplished).

I used to get excited about drafting young players.

Then Ty Corbin happened.
 
Some question marks over Greek Freak from Chad Ford:

5. Giannis Adetokunbo | F | Greece
Adetokunbo is this year's international man of mystery. Remember how Nikoloz Tskitishvili and Pavel Podkolzine dazzled in workouts but couldn't really play in a 5-on-5 game? That's where we are at with Adetokunbo. He is playing in a lower Greek league against talent NBA international scouts have dubbed NCAA Division III level.

However, the physical tools are intriguing -- especially in the workouts he's done for NBA personnel. He's a rangy point forward who handles the ball, passes out of the high post and plays in a manner that had at least one GM utter the name of Scottie Pippen. With so few players in the draft having major upside, a number of GMs and scouts in Portland told me that they thought he was worth a second-round pick at the very least and could possibly be worth a pick in the 20s.

However, the red flags are everywhere. Every scout I spoke with said Adetokunbo is not even ready for the D-League, let alone the NBA. He's going to need several more years in Europe to develop. He also is painfully thin, isn't a great shooter and has passport issues that prohibit him from playing in the top Greek leagues, never mind the United States (this explained why he wasn't at the Hoop Summit).

"It's a gamble," one NBA GM said. "In a lot of drafts, you don't make it. In this one, I'm not sure why you wouldn't. There isn't a lot to lose."

Yeah good point!

And how about Matthews? Jerry put him in because he was playing tough defense. Yes he also made shots for us, but as long as he was fighting, Jerry would play him.

Can't say the same for Ty's "OHhhh, we have to please the vets and the soon-to-be FA's to maintain a happy locker room" approach.

Jerry was arguably great at developing second round and undrafted talent. Which leads me to believe it was the Jazz's drafting strategy in the mid first round that sucked. As for Ty Corbin, I really do think he thinks that lottery picks are entitled, and he wants to stick it to them, or teach them a lesson. The locker room crap also bugs the hell out of me. Why do we care about a locker room this year? We needed to be coaching for the future, and keep our young kids happy.

********!! Deron was playing horrible basketball and just going through the motions. Sloan sat his *** to wake his fat *** up, then inserted him back in the starting lineup and Deron finally started playing like the third pick in the draft.
 
If Matthew Dellavedova goes undrafted, the FO HAS to sign him. He's really too good not to sign. I've said it before, he could be a REALLY good backup PG and even a starter. He has terrific hustle, he gives 110% and is fearless on defense, he has terrific court vision, very high basketball IQ, he's a great teammate, he's a good shooter, creates shots. I could go on and on.

What makes him go undrafted then?

Idk, that's why I said "If." I really don't think there's any reason he wouldn't go at least late in the second round. I think he'll go somewhere in the middle.

He is not bad but the way you put him I thought he could be drafted at lottery.
