What's new

Playoffs have sucked

well that was a fun basketball night. I particularly enjoyed watching the Bulls beat LeBron. This last game was just epic, and would have been more so if the dubs would have won it. Gotta hand it to the spurs though, they don't give up.

Man... The playoffs have sucked thus far. Almost all the games have been blowouts. Houston, who blew us out a few times this year (once by almost 50) can't come close to hanging with OKC. How would we have remained competitive against OKC?

It's totally a good thing that we didnt have to go through another embarrassing series. Also, the NFL is so much better than the NBA. Much more parity, season actually matters, and the playoffs are actually competitive and littered with upsets.

Just hand the trophy to Miami already. No one is coming close to them unless the King goes down with serious injury.

I must say, your imbecility continues to catch me off guard

I personally like that teams are forced to constantly adjust to one another. But I also think chess is better than checkers, which is not to say I don't also appreciate the excitement of single-game elimination. That said, give me a game 7 over an NFL or NCAA playoff game every day.

...well, looks like I'll be eating crow tomorrow morning.

....I hate to admit this, but I was almost feeling sorry for the Warriors when they coughed up that lead! That kid Curry was impossible to check in that 3rd quarter! But you could tell the difference in the two teams by what was going on in the huddles! Jackson was attempting to pull the Warriors together with motivation speech while Popovich had the attention of every player as he was drawing up a play! Guest what? The motivational stuff only goes so far! The Spurs ran there timeout plays to perfection and somehow pulled out this game! When Ginobli took that ill-advised shot with 11 seconds left on the shot clock, Popovich was ready to strangle him! But he kept his cool and then Parker finally hit some shots to make up the difference. Have to give the Warriors credit.....they played pretty good basketball for a hopper team!

I find hilarious that Jackson was playing two or three rookies in OT game of west semis. I reckon Burks was watching that with tears in his eyes.

Lesson's learned (relearned) from this year's playoffs.

Contenders have 3 of 4:

1. PG who can get into the paint to score or pass (Conley, Paul, even Nate Robinson etc.)
2. Shotblocking paint controlling big man (Marc Gasol, Bogut, Ibaka, Noah, etc.)
3. Transcendent scorer (Durant, Lebron, Curry, etc)
4. Good team defensive concept (Bulls, Pacers, Grizzles, etc)

We have a paint controling big in Favors. Great scoring star- not so much. PG who can get into the paint to score or pass. Nope. Transcendent scorer-nope. Good team defensive concept- nope.

We have some real work to do.

Teams fill in the cracks with very good shooting role players and off the bench scorers like Carl Landry. But the 4 points above are the big time difference makers.

...I don't know how many times I've seen this in recent years and games, but when I was playing basketball if someone threw me the ball, I caught it, then dropped it, then picked it up and started to dribble.....it was DOUBLE DRIBBLE every time! Why that's not called today is beyond me! Is it just me or do some of you guys see the same thing happening just about every game?

Pretty good analysis.

The same points applies to the Mavs that won a couple of years ago:

- PG that can score (Kidd was shooting 3's)
- Shot Blocker (Chandler)
- Transcendent scorer (Dirk)
- Team defense (Carlisle was a defensive minded coach)

For us going forward I think it'll be:

- PG that can get into the paint (Schroeder)
- Shot Blocker (Favors)
- Transcendent scorer (Kanter? No reasons he can't be Dirk Lite in 3-4 years IMO)
- Team defense (Not Ty - we'll need a new coach IMO)

So I don't think we're as far off as you may think. We do have the young guys, we just need to develop them.

Maybe you weren't a star so you didn't get star calls.

Curry is an awesome shooter, but once the Spurs put Leonard on Curry, it stifled Curry's offense. Meanwhile, Parker was still dominating the game by getting into the lane. Having Curry dominate the ball really limits the dimensions of Golden State's offense and makes them easier to guard. At the end of the game it was all Curry and Jack isos, which is pretty unreliable.

Trascendent scorer...... Burks!

Dumb point. I have seen it a few times myself and thought, am I seeing things, when it wasn't called.

....I saw the most flagrant case of it tonight in the Knicks game. The Knick guy was passed the ball....clearly had caught it and had complete possession.....then fumbled the ball onto the court, picked it up again.....and then started dribbling! NO CALL! Maybe one of our hotshot rules nerds can find the explanation in the current NBA rules book of what is and is not a violation???

You used to watch CarolinaJazz back in the day?

...yeah, easy to see me in the good old days! Just click on the bottom of my signature and you can see me bouncing the ball off the head of a brain dead opponent.....right before assisting on a layup!

Kendrick Perkins always looks like he ate a piece of dog poo thinking it was a baby Ruth. Who was that poster a while back that said we should throw millions of dollars at Perkins to stink up our roster? It was in his sig? Perkins sucks.
