Also, this thread is really hilarious right now.
Man... The playoffs have sucked thus far. Almost all the games have been blowouts. Houston, who blew us out a few times this year (once by almost 50) can't come close to hanging with OKC. How would we have remained competitive against OKC?
It's totally a good thing that we didnt have to go through another embarrassing series. Also, the NFL is so much better than the NBA. Much more parity, season actually matters, and the playoffs are actually competitive and littered with upsets.
Just hand the trophy to Miami already. No one is coming close to them unless the King goes down with serious injury.
...well, looks like I'll be eating crow tomorrow morning.
Lesson's learned (relearned) from this year's playoffs.
Contenders have 3 of 4:
1. PG who can get into the paint to score or pass (Conley, Paul, even Nate Robinson etc.)
2. Shotblocking paint controlling big man (Marc Gasol, Bogut, Ibaka, Noah, etc.)
3. Transcendent scorer (Durant, Lebron, Curry, etc)
4. Good team defensive concept (Bulls, Pacers, Grizzles, etc)
We have a paint controling big in Favors. Great scoring star- not so much. PG who can get into the paint to score or pass. Nope. Transcendent scorer-nope. Good team defensive concept- nope.
We have some real work to do.
Teams fill in the cracks with very good shooting role players and off the bench scorers like Carl Landry. But the 4 points above are the big time difference makers.
...I don't know how many times I've seen this in recent years and games, but when I was playing basketball if someone threw me the ball, I caught it, then dropped it, then picked it up and started to dribble.....it was DOUBLE DRIBBLE every time! Why that's not called today is beyond me! Is it just me or do some of you guys see the same thing happening just about every game?
Maybe you weren't a star so you didn't get star calls.
Maybe you weren't a star so you didn't get star calls.
Dumb point. I have seen it a few times myself and thought, am I seeing things, when it wasn't called.
Pretty good analysis.
The same points applies to the Mavs that won a couple of years ago:
- PG that can score (Kidd was shooting 3's)
- Shot Blocker (Chandler)
- Transcendent scorer (Dirk)
- Team defense (Carlisle was a defensive minded coach)
For us going forward I think it'll be:
- PG that can get into the paint (Schroeder)
- Shot Blocker (Favors)
- Transcendent scorer (Kanter? No reasons he can't be Dirk Lite in 3-4 years IMO)
- Team defense (Not Ty - we'll need a new coach IMO)
So I don't think we're as far off as you may think. We do have the young guys, we just need to develop them.

You used to watch CarolinaJazz back in the day?
