What's new

Official Jazz workouts thread

DJ Stephens has a ridiculous 46" vertical and the highest max reach of any prospect in DX database. Meet the new Jeremy Evans.

I watched a few Memphis games this year and DJ Stephens plays like a beast at times, making spectacular plays. I was shocked when I heard he was only 6'5 because the guy plays like he is 6'9, just rejecting and dunking everything. If I were a team I would draft him for pure fun value of putting him in for pre-season games, dunk contest, and last few minutes of blowouts.

I think Wolters might still be in play at #21. The fact that he worked out for us and there hasn't been a single word about it speaks volumes to me. The silence is a bit deafening. Larkin is just media jabber and could be used as a smokescreen.

Good point. The Jazz got him in here as soon as they could for a workout. I know they brought Bongo in too, but probably just for some misdirection.

Nah.

I've been saying we should snag Wolters @ #21 forever. He may not pan out, but that can be said about almost everyone in this draft. If he does, then he's a steal @ #21. Additionally, I really like his attitude, and think he would fit in well with our team.

Well u get the credit then just as long as I can be on the bandwagon before we draft this kid and he turns out to be the next GREAT Utah Jazz point guard.

haha, that's not what I meant. I meant I am just glad that others are saying this too. I don't think I was first anyways.

Ok cool, there are just many tools on here who get butt hurt if they don't get credit where credit is due.

Anyways, Nate Wolters has the length to make up for not being as athletic as say Larkin and Schroeder but he feels more like the prototypical point guard because he a terrific ball handler, smooth stroke, and great passer and he said in his draft express interview he doesn't need to rely on his scoring as much as he did in college because he will be playing with other top talents and can be more of a facilitator. Nate doesn't need to pretend something he is not because he was a very good facilitator in college unlike Larkin who holds onto the ball until he gets his shot off or Schroeder who no one on here knows nothing about or seen him play multiple games they just see his measurements and heard someone say he could be like Rondo.

Those people who love Schroeder fall all over themselves because like me earlier this last season wanted to see the Jazz trade for Rondo. but Rajon gets his stats against NBA guys and Schroeder plays in some no name German league. Wolters at least posted good games against New Mexico and Baylor, but struggled when he was guarded by perhaps the best defender in college ball this year in Hardaway Jr!

Yeah, if I recall, Trey Burke didn't do so well in that SDSU game either. I don't think Wolters will have a problem with being unathletic because he has the height, is a good ball handler, has a high BBIQ, and is deadly with hesitations and fakes. He's just straight creative with getting around guys.

Personally, I am high on Schroeder, but that's just from his performance in the Hoops Summit game against Harrison and Hall, and his measurements/athleticism, as well as his defensive prowess (which we really lacked in the back court this season). I still think Schroeder is worth the gamble at #14 (in this draft). If he's not there, I'd be happy with a KCP, or Kerasev if available as long as we took Wolters at #21.

A back court of Wolters, Hayward, and Kerasev or KCP would go a long way in keeping the defense honest. Hayward was 5th best from DT post December this season. A back court of Schroeder and Hayward could be great defensively, and decent from 3 territory.

Anyways, I am all for the Jazz drafting 2 PG's this season. The competition will bring out the best in them.

True, which goes to show that Wolters is pretty good on D. Luckily for Burke he had Hardaway Jr. on his team to defend Wolters.

If Jazz management think Schroeder is worth the gamble at 14 then I won't argue because they have the ability and that's what they get paid to do is watch these players but I can't just like Schroeder based off one game, and I know Kanter blew up after his Nike Hoops Summit game but I felt confident that the management knew what they were doing. So the same goes for Schroeder.
