Official Jazz workouts thread

Apart from that DAL workout, I don't think Schroeder has been that impressive so far in the other workouts.

This from Chad Ford:

I'm hearing that German point guard Dennis Schroeder struggled in his workouts in Milwaukee and Houston. Schroeder, according to team sources, struggled to keep up with the defensive intensity in workouts. He works out again Friday in Utah. Schroeder rode a dominant performance at the Hoop Summit into the top 30, but if he doesn't start playing better, he could be in for an equally significant decline.

I think this has a lot of truths in it especially how it echoed what Walt Perrin was saying in his interview.

This could be good news if the Jazz are sold on him, at this moment in time, it's looking more and more like we're more sold on McCollum & Larkin.

********

schroder is the pick @14

I think the situation is more fluid than that. If there's an opportunity to move up and grab McCollum I think the Jazz would do that. It's a much better fit for Favors & Kanter.

Larkin is also a better fit, although his upside isn't as great as Schroeder obviously..

I wouldn't be surprised if the Jazz passed on Dennis. I like the kid and I am intrigued with his potential but he is going to struggle big time the first couple of years. He has a lot to take on his first year just culturally. I don't know if Walt is just honest or he was down playing the kid's performance.

I think the chances are that Utah takes someone else at 14 instead of Schroeder going by my gut. It does have a lot to do with who is still on the board. I don't care either way. I am intrigued but not overwhelmed with the kid that if the Jazz pass on him I won't go nuts.

I've been high on him, always have. But my caveats have also been that provided that he doesn't have an attitude problem.

He strikes me as being too over-confident at times with his abilities and not really evaluating it as objectively as I would like. At this stage of his career he needs to be a bit more humble and recognize where he can improve and set out to achieve them. Trey Burke for example has 70% of Schroeder's athletic abilities, but he's able to utilized nearly 100% of what he's got. Schroeder needs to change his attitude if he wants to reach that potential.

If he can't find it within himself to work hard/improve/hungry to get better - how can he be the leader of the team at the PG position?

I wanted to see a bit more humbleness from him, and I'm disappointed that I'm not seeing it yet...

Remember, draft talk is often a:

Seriously, though. Doesn't anyone else find it strange that someone has one of the highest vertical leaps in combine history, yet you never see him dunking in any of his highlight reels?

Not really, his 7'5.5" standing reach was the among the lowest recorded in DX history. It should be around 7'8" for someone his height.

will it be the last time...

If I were the Jazz I'd try my best to trade up to Burke & McCollum.

If nothing works - I think Schroeder at #14 is a good "risk" to take. I mean he has so much upside you've just got to "roll the dice" sometimes. Was Paul George a bit of an unknown when drafted? Yes.

We're looking at the #14 pick here folks, not the #5 pick. We picked Burks at #12 for crying out loud, and he didn't have nearly as much talent/potential as Schroeder.

So let's not be a tight *** about it and just grab him.

I can live with this. The Jazz should always be trying to move up.
From the rumors it seems we have been doing our part to see what options are out there

Schroeder on radio: "Dallas was my best workout so far... followed by Milwaukee and Utah".

That seems to support the hype coming out of Dallas... all the rumors/murmurs to date seems to be right on.

Workouts are a small part of the decision-making process, the kid most likely is ready to go home considering how long a summer it has been. Besides Utah general really works out their guys hard.

I most definitely would NOT trade up for Dennis Schröder, but for Trey Burke or CJ McCollum I would, only if the scouting department and FO think McCollum can play the point, then I'm game. But I am not saying you said any such thing Hotttnickkk, just everyone's love for this guy makes it sound like they would move up between picks 9-13 to draft Schröder, the only way I take a risk on this kids potential is if he falls to us at 14, then I am comfortable with it without giving up any assets!
