We got Rush because he was expiring contract that GSW wanted to dump and they were willing to part with the pick. I personally hope and would be pleasantly surprised if Rush gives us Foye like production off the bench and stays injury free all year. 2 ACLs is tough to overcome - remember Raul Lopez. Rush is a filler at this point of his career, anything we get out of him is a bonus. I doubt much thought went into keeping him beyond this season - that's just premature at this point given he is still rehabbing from second ACL.

Of course that's true, but it's better to see what the Core 5 can do with actual minutes and then develop, buy or trade for a bench.
The Jazz have Favors and Hayward coming due as RFA in the 2014 offseason. Kanter, Burks and possibly Neto (if Neto comes over on a 2 year deal right now) all as RFA in 2015. Burke and Gobert will be RFA in 2016. Those guys are all going to play big minutes over the next couple of years to help the Front Office gauge their effectiveness and value. Will they all be stars? Not likely. But some should be very good or possibly great core guys to build around. Others will be depth. Some might get traded to land a star player in the draft or free agency. Some will possibly get bumped down to the bench when new guys are drafted in 2014. Some might just leave in free agency instead of sticking around.
The jazz have a ton of picks to work with and look like they might struggle this year putting them in play for a top pick (or two) in a loaded draft. Tomic might be a player or asset if he ever comes over. The Core 5 are just the starting point to build a championship team. There's still a lot of moves that need to be made before they get there (including hopefully getting a better coach) but they've finally positioned themselves to make those moves and chase a ring.

Good observations. I think we can keep the Core5 together for at least their next contracts. None of them are MAX players. Cap is around $58M and the luxury tax, IINM, is at $71M or so. But I could see the 2014 pick perhaps pushing one of those guys to the bench and then out the door in 4 years when that contract comes up. I think Lindsey was already looking ahead when he got the GS pick in 2017.
For what it is worth, I think I have found a bit more detail regarding whatthe second round picks are going to be. I was reading a Warriors board to see what they though of all that was going on and came across this listing of second round picks destined to various teams over the next 5 years.
So we could be getting second rounders from ATL or Philly which GSW has acquired in earlier trades, (hopefully 2014 from Philly) or GSW picks in 2016, 2017, and 2018. We do know the latest one is 2018 but not from who.

Have Tinsley start but play Trey 30 mins a night. Once Trey feels good out there (whether one game or 40), start him.
You don't want to start 5 young guys. You don't want to kill them at first. It would be better to win some games early, the. Turn it over to the kids and lose a lot in the middle, then pull off some wins at the end of the year.

Korver was a little overpaid. I guess there's that potential for Rush. Or the Jazz could just keep a really nice player. I don't know. But options are great.

If it is true that is good info. I wonder if the poor GSW fans have realized that all the maneuvering made their team worse and the Jazz just robbed them of all their future assetts? I don't like their coach Tank Jackson, and I cheer against the team for selfish reasons but I feel bad for their fanbase. The have endured a lot.

I like Rush - he's an upgrade over Foye. Richard Jefferson is the dead-weight, but hopefully he can play better than last year and score some points. Hoping we can get Biedrins to play better - he had a few decent years where he contributed. This trade is obviously for the future, but I think these guys can help us, though we're obviously rebuilding.

I'd forgotten about that article, it was one of my favorite Grantland pieces. It is probably why I have empathy for their fans. And why I have hope in 2014 & 2017. Can't wait for the details of the trade to come out tomorrow.
Speaking of which, I have a hope that the Jazz announce atleast one more deal tomorrow--maybe a sign and trade with any of thier players, or moving Biedrens or Richard Jefferson. Lindsey has been so full of suprises-- I expect something shocking.
I think we need Rush to some degree - without Millsap, GH will play a lot of SF (not sure if Richard Jefferson will get much time). And with no Foye, we don't have a SG (Burks hasn't proven he's a starting SG). I bet Rush will be our starting SG unless we sign someone. Biedrins and Jefferson don't need to play well, but if they do, I won't complain. And if any of our bigs get injured, I see Biedrins getting some playing time.

That article was priceless. If the Jazz had gone young and rebuilding (instead of using the vets to maintain the status quo, barely make the playoffs and get swept) immediately after trading Deron Williams and having Sloan resign. . . there's a good chance that Utah has two lottery picks in 2012. That would have been an epic letdown for Golden State, trying to tank to save the pick and still failing. Imagine this team with Lindey having two great picks in a good draft and with Millsap and Jefferson as disgruntled assets to work with. I'm holding out hope that the Golden State failures reach an epic conclusion with a few key injuries, a shocking lottery result and the Jazz having two top 5 picks in what looks like the strongest draft since 2003. All because they wanted to dump previous mistakes made with Biedrins and Jefferson so they could sign Iggy right before he starts to slow down.
