Warriors and Jazz Mega Trade

61. GS tries to negotiate keeping their 2012 draft pick, only to be rebuffed by Kevin O'Connor and the Utah Jazz. In a classless and blatant example of tanking, GS loses several games late in the season, giving away sizable leads with turnovers off inbound passes, dubious bad shots and inserting D-League talent en masse to close out games. The Warriors win a coin toss and rejoice when they draft Harrison Barnes. Barnes is a nice addition for GS and they make the playoffs, giving Utah the #21 pick. Ironically, this turns out even better for Utah. Using the GS pick to trade up, the Jazz draft Trey Burke, who wins ROY.

62. Trying to build off their once-in-a-decade playoff appearance, the Warriors go ALL IN, flirting with FA Dwight Howard (as IF they ever had a chance) and then setting their sights on Andre Iguadala, who had a falling out with the Denver Nuggets. To clear space for a S&T for "Iggy," the Warriors were forced to offload their sizeable expiring contracts to Jefferson and Biedrins in one deal with Utah, and then negotiate a second 3-way trade with Utah and Denver, netting the Jazz two UNPROTECTED first round picks and three second round picks. AS a result of the trade, Carl Landry and Jarrett Jack, two key components of their 2012 playoff run were let go in free agency. With a decimated bench, the Warriors were not able to withstand injuries to Andre Bogut and Steven Curry, two players whose chronic ankle problems caused them to miss significant games in 2013, resulting in the Warriors missing the playoffs in a strong Western Conference. The Jazz, who finished with the 4th worst record, were able to convince the Phoenix Suns to trade the 2nd pick for the 4th and 12th. Surprisingly, Danny Ainge selected fellow Mormon Jabari Parker with the top pick for Boston, leaving Andrew Wiggins for Utah. On a weak Boston team, Parker has the better stats and wins ROY. Wiggins has the last laugh, however. Led by two Olympians, Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward, who barely lost the MVP vote to the new Laker, LeBron James, the Jazz defeat the Brooklyn Nets 4-2 to win the title. Deron Williams is inconsolable after the loss and can be heard screaming at Jason Kidd in the locker room.

Freakin Warriors added Jermaine O'neil, Toney Douglas, and their draft pick--Nedaman Nadovich (sp?).

So they kind of addressed their depth problem.

Not really. O'Neal is 35. Decent defender, but best days are behind him. Douglas? meh. Draft pick? Not going to be a factor. Biggest acquisition was Speights, but he's offense only. All of these guys will help, but it's still a downgrade from bringing Landry and Jack off the bench.

Question: Does the moratorium end tonight at 10pm Mtn.?

Or tomorrow at 10PM mtn?

Real Question: When will all of the trades and deals for the Jazz be announced?

I've been announcing the trades in advance as a benefit to my followers.

Overall, I think the Jazz are doing well in their rebuild. If they had picks last year, they might have made a run at Damian Lillard, but there's no guarantee they would have gotten high enough in the lottery to grab him. A second pick might have been someone like John Henson or Terrence Jones, not a game changer.

The best shot we have at adding a significant player to the current team is in the 2014 draft. There's major talent in the first 7 or 8 picks.

yea, but what time?

10pm tonight, or 10 am tomorrow?

Or does the nba have to process/approve them? Since there are players who have to sign contracts.

Jody Genessy @DJJazzyJody NBA's moratorium ends tonight at 10:00 p.m. MDT. Free agents can officially sign with teams and trades can be made official.

Thanks Jody, if I knew what your screen name was on here I would certainly rep you.

Breaking News.....

Jazz deal is finalized.

As we all know ..... unprotected 2014 & 2017. 2nd round picks from GS in 2016, 2017. 2nd round pick from Nuggets in 2018. Plus, Rush, Biedrens, & Jefferson.

Gennesy: Lindsey said the Jazz received "a very significant allotment of money" from this trade. Credited Millers for allowing team to reinvest that.

Oram: Dennis Lindsey says last year the Jazz were "sometimes going in completely opposite ways" with youth and vets.

Genessey: Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey said organization might have had "different conversations with Mo Williams" had they not moved up to get Trey Burke

Does that mean the Jazz pocketed some cash? Or just are saving money by ending up close to the minimum?

That's encouraging. Sounds like the lack of Mo Williams is a done deal.

Isn't the maximum any team can spend per year on trades, buyouts, and buying picks etc set at $3 million per team per season. If so, it sounds like we collected $6 million (3 from GSW and 3 from the Nuggets).
