Jazz vs Blazers

May I add some prospective to the game before we are over come with Debbie Downers here. Portland needed to win their first game of the preseason badly so their new coach played to win, while we were in the experiment and evaluation mode.

Portland only played 13 players while the Jazz played 17. Portland played 11 players over 6 min., while the Jazz played 15 players over 6 minutes each. Only 4 of our best players played over 20 min., while Portland played 7 of their best players over 20 minutes in the game.

The Blazers have their roster pretty well set, while the Jazz are still looking for players.

Having so many players to give time to hurts us. I don't want to put to much decision making from one game, but going forward these players should be looked at heavily as not cutting it, and no I did not go back to last game to see how they did.

J. Holiday - 14.01 minutes...............1 Ast., 1 PF, 1 TO and 0 points
D. McGuire - 10:03 minutes.............1 Ast., 1 ST, 1 BS and 2 points
A. Biedrins - 13:19 minutes.............3 Reb., 1 PF, 1 TO and 0 points Compared to Gobert's 4:55 minutes...........0 Reb. 2 PF and 2 points (3rd big????????????? maybe still healing)
I. Clark - 15:31 minutes...................3 ST, 3 TO and 2 points

Hard to win with players like that getting minutes with little results. Thus our bench helping with the tank.

Other disapointments:

Favors - 21:38 minutes....................2 for 8 on FG, 4 PF, 3 TO, 3 for 3 on FT and 7 points.
Evans - 15:40 minutes...............O Ast., 0 Reb., but shot 2 for 3 for 4 points.
J. Lucas III - 9:06 minutes............2 Ast., 1 TO, and 3 points.

Two best players:

Hayward - 25:57 minutes.............Shot well 5-11 FG, 2 for 2 Three Pointers, 8-11 FT for 20 points, but disappointed with 2 Reb. and only 1 Ast.
E. Kantor _ 23:13 minutes...........Also shot well 5-10 FG, 1 for 2 FT for 11 points, 6 Reb., but disappointed with only 1 Ast.

From the Deseret News:

"Kanter wasn’t frustrated about returning back to the bench, but he also felt out of sorts during his 23-minute outing. He hit half of his 10 shots and grabbed six rebounds.

'I just need to be more focused and try to help my teammates,' Kanter said. 'Tonight when I was out here I was just confused.'"

Yeah, playing with scrubs will cause that. I want to cut Corbin some slack because it's the preseason and he should be tinkering, but what exactly did he expect to accomplish with the line-ups he played tonight and how was that prepping the team for the regular season?

He was giving other camp invitees a chance to play, seeing if Evans could start if Kanter was injured. etc.

I'm glad he chose these line ups for the game we couldn't watch.

being a weber st alum, i saw lillard over and over, he definitely had that it factor that i havent seen in trey yet.

Yeah, I'm still waiting to see that too.

Does it really take an NBA coach tinkering with a lineup to find out Evans comes off the bench?

I'm not claiming I have the slightest clue why Ty did what he did.. but I sincerely hope it was something other than plain stupid.

I think the reason Evans started was to see if Alec Burks could get his shots in the starting line-up, to get Alec get more touches and see Favors would do being the only player to play center. It may very well be just to reward his performance for once.

Benching Kanter probably was to see if he could carry the team. Since second unit lacks scoring Kanter may well get subbed earlier and come into play with second unit to balance things.

Keep in mind that Utah has just played 3 games in 4 nights and is on the back end of a back to back.

Oh, wait................

I prefer to believe Ty is inept. More believable. Especially since Kanter started in the very first game.

I will start hating on Ty early and often (and with Spanish vitriol) if this **** doesn't stop now.

Come on PKM, you're way smarter than this. It is the freak'n PRESEASON!!!! Ty is experimenting and giving guys chances so he can see who works well together. If Ty does this to start the season then go ahead, give Ty your best.

All you other posters it is PRESEASON which is one step up from summer league. Overreaction to how a player plays in preseason is ridiculous. Whatever record the Jazz have means NOTHING!!! This going to be a long season if fans are impatient and whine every time a young player doesn't live up to some expectation. Lower your expectations and you won't be as disappointed.

This team is young and inexperience, they are talented but they are going to play against other talented teams. It is going to be ugly sometimes but the majority of Jazz fans have been waiting for this to finally happen. Now you are already thrashing players in PRESEASON!!!! Unbelievable!!!

Ok I feel better.

That's fair, cowhide.. and I have recently explained my position more thoroughly in another thread.
Bottom line is I just don't have faith in Corbin. That is my prerogative. I am open-minded to change that opinion, but until then he is the weak link, in my mind.

It's pretty obvious Kanter is ready to explode.

I thought it would happen next year, but I'm not so sure now.

Props to Stoked for calling it!. I've been very disappointed in Favors progress offensively.
However if he can be a beast on the boards, and defense he might the perfect compliment to Kanter.

It might be preseason but we've been saying these things about Ty since he started, and nothing he has done yet has shaken my belief that he is just that, inept.

so supposedly Burke crossed over Lillard and made a 21 foot jump shot over him. so that sounded cool.
