Nobody had the Jazz playing .500 basketball this year. Ty is a big part of this clear outperformance, but like Sloan he'll never receive recognition for winning more than seems possible.
.500 ? We're not even close. We're .35
I'll assume you mean since Trey came back, but you're still wrong. We're 20-28 with Trey back.
Ty is a losing coach. You can make excuses about rosters and lockoouts, but there comes a time where you have to see the obvious. He isn't good with X's and O's. His supposed strength is keeping the team focused, but yet I don't see how. We suffered our worst home loss in franchise history last year against the Rockets under his tenure. Last night we were embarrassed by the worst team in the league. For being the guy who supposedly excels at keeping the team fired up, those were some big blunders.
Yes, we weren't built to contend this year. His tasks were defense, development, and discipline. Development wise he is all over the board. He rarely adjusts a players minutes unless that player's success is coupled with one of his preferred player's obvious failure. When was the last time Clark saw the court? The only thing Clark and Gobert have developed under Ty is a case of splinters.
Defense? We trend in some areas, and then it all goes to hell. We don't force turnovers, and we don't help the helper. Charlotte's hidden Al who was worse than Kanter at defense.
Millsap was in the boat Kanter was in as a Jazz man--able to shoot the 3, but not allowed to. Now that Sap is in Atlanta, he became an all-star. You can say "it's the eastern conference," but the fact remains he still made the all star team and has had his game freed up by new coaching.
Discipline? Does Favors have any? He shows up to some games (Indiana) and looks invincible, but then you put him again perceived lesser competition and he just doesn't care (Bucks).
We need a new direction.
DL should pursue Thibs with everything he has this offseason. If he wants us to be the Bulls, we need the Bulls' mastermind. If Thib's can hide Boozer, he can hide Kanter.
