Following potential 2014 draftees

Being a smartass is no replacement for actually answering questions. Would u like them bulleted?

- how does anthropology teach us about pre-history peoples? (And if you were talking about like 18th/19th century, then I misunderstood your comments altogether).

- how is a reasonable hypothesis that an ENTIRE race is simply eating poorly?

I'm honestly can't believe you aren't grasping this.

- There are ****loads of historical accounts of Polynesian peoples. These accounts make frequent mentions of the appearance of the islanders. They are often complimented for their physiques... there are no mentions of obesity or over-weight bodies, etc.

You are aware that archaeology is a field of anthropology, right? Anthropology is very concerned with the "pre-history of peoples."

- your second point is just so beyond ridiculous that it doesn't even need to be engaged. But here's a hint: there's nothing wrong with Polynesian bodies.... there's plenty wrong with modern methods of preparing food... and there's even more wrong with the access to healthy foods in collapsed island economies.

Why are black people in the USA fatter than black people in West Africa? Do we just have a bad genetic stock of black people in this country? Maybe Sterling is just concerned with diet.

Also, NAOS.. I'm not sure what is so funny. I asked one sincere question about methods anthropology can determine the weight of people in the past. I didn't say it couldn't.. I asked how (the rest of that portion of my post was sarcasm, duh).
I also made the statement that I don't buy that the sole reason for their chronic obesity cannot be diet alone. And you basically agreed with your gluten example.

But yeah.. maybe i'll take up stand up comedy. Maybe you can do some anthropological work into my ancestors and tell me whether they were full of humor.

And i think you are right
Many researchers also believe that Pacific islanders' bodies are genetically hard-wired to store fat more efficiently. This trait used to make a lot of sense -- living on a tiny island, highly susceptible to the effects of the weather, often involved long periods of famine and required a great deal of physical labor.

Thats just dumb bro. People are starving in Africa .. and not ALL black people in the U.S. are fat.

I do snicker though that you are arguing that there's more to this than just diet.. which argues my original point.
And yes, I know what anthropology is.. but I don't know how archaeology (either) can tell me about the weight of people in pre-history. (Again, not that it can't, I just don't know how)

Wait. Is NAOS arguing against the fact the obesity and genetics are intricately linked?

His points about why their chronic obesity is linked to an undertaking of a vastly-different diet makes total sense, but a) i feel like most people here aren't really disagreeing with him that much b) why is he acting so militant (lol) c) how much of a role do human genetics have with obesity...

I think so..... but he is rarely very clear in what his point is so who knows.

i feel like most people here aren't really disagreeing with him that much
yep
why is he acting so militant (lol)
its just who he is
c) how much of a role do human genetics have with obesity...

That is a good question

Why are people so quick to want to trade Trey Burke?

#23 + Trey for Smart?

I like Smart, but I'm not sure that's a great trade.

I was pleasantly surprised by Trey in his first year. I think he has a chance to be pretty darn good.

I just don't think it's a good idea to be trading pieces that you aren't even sure what they are yet, for a piece that you aren't sure about either.

I would rather keep Trey, and take another swing at a player at 23. Trey has at least shown to be a clutch shooter and a smart player. It isn't always about size. Just look at Tony Parker and Chris Paul.

Smart is bigger, a better defender, is better at getting in the lane and finishing, and he brings a toughness the Jazz need. His drive and dish would be pretty tough to defend because he'll overpower just about all the other point guards and draw help. He's just not a floor spacer right now, but I think he'll eventually be an adequate shooter.

The Jazz need a mismatch, and Smart can provide that at the PG. Combine Smart with a top-5 pick (e.g., Smart & Parker, Smart & Randle, or Smart & Vonleh, etc.) and we're in good shape.

Big fan of Burke. BIG Fan. But, his pace of play terrifies me.

And why are white southerners fatter than white Californians (on average)?
1) Diet; 2) Exercise.
