That is way too much to give up. I know everyone is disappointed right now but don't lose your heads.
Someone said that the cavs would laugh at us, another says it's too much to give up.
hmmm....

I know we're angry we didn't land a top-3. But let's look at it this way - Parker doesn't play good defense, Embiid has the back of an old man, and Wiggins has the tenacity of Marvin Williams.
We shouldn't be surprised. This is what happens when you gamble: you lose.
Vonleh is my pick. Jazz can still have four bigs as Vonleh would take time to develop. It was not ideal when Utah had Favors, Millsap, Jefferson and Kanter all vying for time, but it worked. Gobert and Vonleh would get the backup mins. behind Kanter and Favors. When all four are healthy, play the starters 30 mins and the backups 18 each. Of course, there are always injuries so average mins/game would be higher for all of them.I know we're angry we didn't land a top-3. Plus we save some money drafting at 5 (a somewhat weak yet valid argument).
I wish we could draft Vonleh at PF. We can move Kanter or have him come off the bench.
Based on draft history, the chance that any of the top 4 becoming franchise players is very low. It is also likely that one or two of the top 2 are going to be a bust or at best serious under achievers.
look at the top 5 of this draft, and please tell me which two will bust and why.
Drafts are not all one and the same.
If we draft Vonleh, then Kanter is gone. Who would we play at the 5 though? Favors mentioned that he prefers the 4.
101 actually. We gonna play OT every game!^
pretty sure i've recently been convinced there are 100 minutes at the 4/5.. so long as #Randle is playing ..
Why? There are 96 mins at the 4/5. That's 32 each if/when Vonleh is ready to be a starter. Good teams need a rotation of at least 3 bigs and a 4th developing in case of injuries. If Gobert develops into a force at the 5, fantastic! Then the Jazz have a nice problem and one of the bigs may fetch a great asset in return. It's the same if we draft Randle, or had drafted Embiid or Parker. The best will earn playing time, the worst will be traded.
Similar situation if Exum had been available or if Smart is the pick at #5...unless he can be a combo guard and Hayward moves to SF. Otherwise, Burke or Burks gets traded, depending on where Smart gets his minutes. About the only scenario that doesn't result in someone getting bumped is drafting A. Gordon as a SF. I like Vonleh, but wouldn't be opposed to the Jazz trading back a couple of spots to get Gordon and another asset. I think Gordon could be a combo forward and fill mins as the fourth big and at backup SF.
Now just use other assets to acquire a starting SF...unless Hayward can be that guy.
