Who Should the Jazz Select With the 5th Pick

The poll is pretty even between Smart/Gordon/Vonleh. The Smart backers are by far the quietest though, only a couple have made a case for him.

I'm right now leaning toward Vonleh.
Smart causes a conflict with Burke.
Randle seems like a smaller version of Kanter.
Gordon is a SF who can't score. A SF has to score.
Vonleh has size and wingspan, etc.
He can defend and score. Not elite at either but has shown he can do both.
Might be able to play SF with Favors and Gobert on the floor. That would be incredible length for a frontline.
All players at the #5 have question marks.
Will trust Jazz pick the winner at #5.
One more thing.
Jazz need a SF who can score.
There really isn't one at the #5 spot.

I'm now starting to like Vonleh a bit more than Exum. I think he's going to be hard to guard. He has the jumper, a pretty good first step, and a strong finish at the rim with pretty elite length. He's going to score on 3s and 4s.

And the dumb ones tend to be the loudest.

The tangibles of Vonlah are intriguing. His wingspan and standing reach are great for a guy his size.

The intangibles of Vonlah scare me, mostly because they are so unknown. And while I typically think team success is overblown in determining who is a great player, the fact Indiana didn't even make the NIT is a bit of a worry if he's this good of a prospect. On the other hand he seems to have accolades as a hard worker.

Still if they pull the trigger on him I won't be upset. It does feel like he can have a great all around game if everything goes together for him, and I'm a fan of versatility.

Depends who you project them to be. If you're projecting Vonleh as an Aldridge type talent (his jumper is just un-guardable), then that's raised the bar pretty high.

On the other hand, if you're projecting Exum to have a Kobe/Jordan-esque type talent, then all bets are off IMO.

I'd be happy with Vonleh or Exum. Looking like the top 5 are:

Embiid
Wiggins
Jabari
Exum
Vonleh

Hmmmmm.

Starting to seem pretty clear that top four are Embiid, Parker, Wiggins, Exum.
All four are untouchable and none of the top four should trade their pick.
Jazz and everybody else will have no chance at moving up.

Starting to favor Vonleh over Gordon.

(I reserve the right to change my mind 1,000 more times before draft night)

Well Jabari will be traded to the Jazz...

LOL.. what???? You're like 3-4 months late on that assessment.

There are some who still think one of those four could fall to #5 for Jazz.

That or what they're really saying is we trade #5 and #23 to get to #4 and grab Exum, which effectively means we got Exum with the #5 pick.

Toe-meh-toe. Toe-mar-toe. Same thing.

It's silly to compare Exum to Kobe. My expectation is that his role is like the young Shaun Livingston's, but he has some of Leandro Barbosa's quickness. He's a combo guard, not a pure SG, and he's not an above-the-rim player.

I think Exum and Vonleh will be neck and neck on draft boards.

If Vonleh looks like a taller, longer version of Kawhi Leonard, I could see Dennis Lindsey falling in love with him.
