Following potential 2014 draftees

It's just not a reliable indicator. College offenses vary radically and may or may not showcase what a player can do. Hayward averaged 1.8 assists and 2.3 T/O his sophomore year. Better to look at game film and see if a player is taking bad/forced shots. That would indicate a selfish player.

Vonleh's is a little worrisome but he played almost exclusively in the post. Its much harder to pass out of there than on the wing.

I also remember one of Lillard's main knocks being (along with playing in a weak conference) that he had a crap AST/TO ratio for a PG.

Hayward wasn't a tweener hoping to make the jump to SF in the NBA either.

Hayward played PF at Butler, there were some tweener concerns from a defensive standpoint.

From DX:

The defensive end is where Hayward's game has the most concerns, as he's not really an ideal matchup for any position in the NBA, lacking the size to defend most 4's and not having ideal lateral quickness on the perimeter . While he plays with a good effort level and his fundamentals aren't bad, he doesn't have a particularly low stance and he's a bit stiff in his lateral movements

I really like Jordan Clarkson and I'm rooting for him. Any Mizzou fans care to say a few things about him? I'm going to go see if I can find any game footage of him.

Alec Burks-lite. he was great vs Kentucky this year. 28 pts, 3 rebs 3 assists on 2 turnovers.

I know there was a Mizzou based poster saying look out for Clarkson before the college season started, i wonder where hes at.

Sounds like he played PG for them, but still needs to learn a lot about the position. I like the shake he has and his passing ability though, plus he has goos size and athleticism for a PG.

Props to you guys trying to convince yourself that Vonleh would be a great pick.

Vonleh had no games out of 30 where he had 20+ points. But this guy is going to be the scorer the Jazz need!

He's a great three point shooter though!

Through his first 13 college games from three; 1-6, not bad a modest 16.6%.

Through his next 13 college games from three; 12-18, a very good 66.6%.

His last 4 college games from three; 3-9, very average 33.3%.

On the year from college a total of 30 games; 16-33 from three.

That's barely a little over 1 three per game and we are convinced he can be a great three point shooter at the NBA level?

Vonleh went a total of 20 games without hitting a three. No! He is a great three point shooter though!

He had a hot stretch of four games where he shot 8-11 from three, which was 1/3 of his total threes on the season.

Take away that stretch of four games and he is 8-22 on the season from three; 36.3%, average, and right around that of, oh wait, A. Gordon.

Alright, he was at least good enough to lead his team to the NCAA Tournament. Wrong.

The NIT Tournament? Try again.

Yeah, but he didn't play enough minutes to be a serious contributor! Vonleh averaged 27 MPG out of a total 40 minutes.

That's 32.4 MPG by the NBA standards and that is the minutes a starter on a team gets.

Okay, enough of the bad about Noah Vonleh and on to the good.

Had the biggest hands at the combine. Very impressive 7'4 1/2 wingspan with a 6'10 height in shoes.

A 37' vertical, which for a big man is surprisingly also impressive.

A great rebounder, at 9 RPG, he lead the Big-10 in total rebounds.

Can be a good shot blocker as well, at 1.4 BPG, which was good enough for 8th in the Big-10.

Big-10 Freshman of the Year and Third-Team all Big 10.

Vonleh's range in my opinion should be from 9-12, but to take him in the top-5 is really pushing it.

Here's to hoping Vonleh's stock continues to rise someone in the top-4 loves him and takes him, pushing one of the top-4 players in the draft down to #5 for the Jazz to pick. Vonleh is a pure potential pick and I really don't see him blossoming into a star.

Agree that it's not totally reliable. I also think Vashro did some cherry-picking on his examples. But things at the lower end and higher end should give us some info.

As for Hayward, besides, as Cy says not really being considered a NBA tweener, he did have a 1.13 A/TO ratio as a freshman and was well above 2.0 in 9 U-19 games. So he had a history.

So good I think you should make a separate thread!

Has no one ever told Smart to stop dipping the ball so damn low before he shoots it? I don't understand why a shooting coach would allow him to keep doing that.

This.
Bugs the **** outta me

Jordan Clarkson Jazz interview.

I like this kid a lot. It might be a little stretch but I would consider him with our 23th pick. Jazz need some size at the PG position and he can also play the SG position.

I like Jordan clarkson but if the jazz take vonleh at 5 I will be wanting tj warren big time at 23. I would hope clarkson would fall to 35.

warren is the scorer the jazz need. he is a consistent shot away from being very good. also defense.

For $2M they can probably trade up into the first round with their #35. In fact, it may not cost them much at all. Teams near the end of the draft sometimes prefer unguaranteed picks, especially if they are up against the tax threshold.

A recent mock draft had Clarkson going to the spurs at 30 and it sounds like his stock has been raising due to his workouts.

He also shot really well at the draft combine. He said that his trainer has helped him fix his shot where his release is higher and he doesn't dip as much.
