With the 23rd Pick... Rodney Hood

I don't see how being 21 is a negative. It's not like most NBA players spend their entire career with 1 team....

We got a lottery pick-type player at 23 and it fills a need so I think the pick is ideal.

Still that's wrong I think. He's a senior who turns 21 in October. Guys who turned 18 just before their Freshmen preseason started are pretty young for their age.

Technically he was a part of the sophomore class because he redshirted, but he's really a junior.

Usually you like your top prospects to be a little younger, but it's really not a big deal IMO. He should be a solid role player going forward…I have no doubts that he will succeed offensively.

Oh, I somehow thought he redshirted twice. Yeah then he's pretty old for his class. But it's not that most people make a big jump between their junior and senior years. Stock stays stagnant between Jr and Sr mostly.

If Exum has a better rookie year than Hood then Hood will have been a bust/must have been injured.

Hood is what... 22? Exum is what... 18? 19?

Exum should be about 2 years away. That Kobe guy bricked shot after shot his first few seasons. Eddie jones was the better SG. But what happened after was what really matters...

I also like that Hood was a captain at Duke before he was even at Duke. Interesting. I'm sure the fact he was two years older than half the team helped but it also suggests he's a leader. I love his shooting stroke and think he'll improve on his defense and high dribble.

And he does get to the basket but it isn't always pretty - looks awkward and weak. I think when he gains more muscle he'll be more complete inside.

Two things really impress and excite me about Hood:

1. He has the ability to keep his dribble and reset or make a move when the defense traps on p-n-r. This is something both Burks and Hayward struggled with for years. Many guys this size either pull up their dribble or dive their head into the big's chest and try to get around him....unsuccessfully. Hood can keep his drive alive, head up, and switch directions, wait for a re-pick, reset, or step back and watch for the big slipping to the bucket.

2. Hood can shoot the long ball when the defense goes under the screen. This is one of the most under-utilized plays in the game IMO. It's a very easy, high % shot if you can get your shot off quick and a couple of feet beyond the arc.

I'm really excited to watch three ball handlers on the floor at once. The Jazz are sitting at a solid four, plus Burks who has come a loooong way and I expect to get even better over the summer. Love this pick.

"My goal is to be one of the best defensive players in the league one day." Rodney Hood. He said he wanted to learn how to play better defense before he was asked about his defense. Sounds promising.

Rodney is really impressing me in this presser. Hes a hard worker, great character, and humble guy.

Really classy good kid.

I really wanted KJ McDaniels in this spot.......but I'm starting to come around to Hood.

I guess KJ was projected to be more of a shooting guard so there wasn't as much a need there.

He transferred to Duke and had to sit out a year. So he spent his time with the team, practicing, working out, and whatnot. They didn't name him a captain because he was older, but because of his time with the team.

If he can become more than decent, he can be a better pick than Exum.

Had talked myself into liking Gordon and figured the Jazz would then go big with their 2nd pick. Honestly had not given much thought to Hood because he was projected higher than where I thought the Jazz could get by trading up with the #23 and #35. So we were given a gift at #23 and then Lindsey just threw away the #35.

Hood will spread the floor. It was a great selection. And I agree with Thriller. Hood can come in and contribute more right away. Exum is going to take a couple of years of development.

Its Boston or Toronto's second round pick not Memphis's That could give us 2 picks near the top of the second round. Those are valuable picks to move up next year if we need to

Think he wants these last few roster spots hor vets to build around already large amount of young talent. No need for yet another rookie that won't play much.

We have another 2nd rounder in that draft too.
