Clothing

No TMI is the fact that the faux leather chair I'm sitting in in my hotel room is sticking in all the wrong places.

Yes I'm that guy who was in the room before you.

The clothing in the pic you posted is designed for one thing, to get attention. One could argue wether the gotten attention is good or bad.

You are framing the entire reason for a clothing choice in terms of how men will react to it. I reject that framing.

Today prostitutes seldom wear shawls or veils. However, their very revealing, suggestive clothing now points even more plainly to the profession they practice.

I have had a couple of friends who were sex workers, way back when. The only one who made it a point to dress revealingly was the stripper, and only on the job. My understanding is that in some locations, sex work is best practiced in clothing that is not the most revealing.

No I'm not, you are. I said that clothing like that is intended for one purpose, attention. I never singled that down to attention from men, you did.

Also we are talking about the outfit in your picture and not all clothing.

To use a One Brow on you. What does it say about you that that is where your mind immediately went?

Fair enough. I reject the framing that clothing has to be about other people and how they look at you. That includes the outfit in that picture. If she's a model posing for a catalog, then yes, she's wearing it to be looked at. If she's walking down the street, there could be many other reasons.

To pull the opposite of Stoked, I'll respond to the question. I think of modesty restrictions as something men impose upon women. That is not really an accurate point of view, and one I need to work on myself.

I never said that clothing "has to be" about being looked at. I said this outfit was, not all clothing. Stop dealing in absolutes. Also it is not about other people imo. I think it is about the person wearing the clothes.

Interesting that you see modesty as a male contruct to further control women. I see modesty as something that applies to men as well. For some examples...extremely tight shirts and pants that sag and reveal boxers are not modest.

If a man is walking down the street in an extremely tight shirt or a woman in a extrememly short skirt then what other reason are they wearing them outside of to be looked at?

Again this is not "clothing" but very specificaly designed clothing. In this case an outfit in particular.

Not surprising you consider these things provocative like their female counterparts, tbqfh.

...yeah, so you don't get her back home with "interest"........she's probably going to come home with an illegitimate, out of wedlock baby in tow?

Is there such a thing as a legitimate out of wedlock baby?

Right. I specifically disagreed about this outfit in the part right after the part you bolded.

I have trouble combining 'wants other people to look at her' and 'it is not about other people' into a coherent combination of thoughts on this outfit.

Culturally, male modesty is about respect for other men, female modesty is about not enticing men. I've never heard a comment that reveaing boxers will make women come on to you.

Some people like the feel of tight clothing, others the feel of loose clothing. Some people like to feel the sun on their skin, including their thighs.

Some people feel a need to defend their cultural values. Of course, you're much too cool to bother actually thinking about such things, so you just dismiss them as beneath you, and naturally this must be announced. We are all appropriately impressed at this level of coolness.
