It helps the big guys (o-line, defensive tackles) and hurts everyone else imo.I wonder how much of BYU's success can be attributed to the fact that a lot of their players are older because of mission trips? I'm sure they get rusty at football, but I'm also sure they workout and get swole during those trips too.
What does that have to do with the whether or not I want byu to be in a power conference?
Even if we go 3-8 for 10 years, I still want to be in a power conference
I have read articles that have said that byu is favored in all thier games. They have lines out months in advance??

There might be lines out already..... I dint have any idea. But you don't always need a Vegas line to have a team favored.
I have utah utes favored over Colorado currently for example..... as I'm sure most everyone does.
I think that the Seattle seahawks are favorites against the rams even though there is no line for that game.
I think that the big 12 is kinda weak this year and I think that byu would be bowl eligible if they were in the big 12 this season.I'm just curious as to what your expectations would be. So, how many years would it take to be bowl eligible? And remember, Hill will get hurt. Look at Utah and TCU. Is your backup good enough to win 5-6 games against P5 teams?
I guess my point is, and you seem to be the exception, that I'm not sure typical BYU fan, like Duck, could handle the transition.
Case in point: in every single QB statistical category, Wilson is a significantly better QB than Hill when healthy their difference? Wilson plays a much tougher schedule. Hill can hide his faults against weak teams. Yet, most BYU fans feel that Hill will compete for a Heisman and end up in the NFL HOF and Wilson will end up a bum.
What would happen, when last year BYU only sold out the Utah game, if BYU went to the Big 12 and went 4-8 like TCU? Would BYU give Bronco the 4-5 years to build depth? And where does that depth come from? The honor code limits your recruiting pool. And before you say "LDS kids" where are the extra 10-15 four-five star kids per year telling people if BYU was in a big conference they'd come to BYU?
I think the road would be much tougher for BYU in a P5 conference due to the HC than TCU or Utah. I don't think BYU fan is very realistic about this.
You are ute fan though so of course you do.I see.
I def have UCF and Cal favored over byu.
For ppl with bad memories, byu is "gonna go undefreated and win heisman!" Literally every single year.

Read some national arcticles about byu and thier schedule/going undefeated and you will see that everyone besides ute fans have byu favored. (There is an arcticle on grantland right now about taysom and byu...... Plus duck rogers put some links in this thread for ya ;-))
I get the feel that the people you are talking about are the minority, but the more outspoken minority. I would think the majority of the fans are fairly realistic and know that while a no loss season would be great, it's really really hard to do no matter what the competition level is. It could possibly be that some people try to be hopeful and focus on the positive, to a fault and brush over some of the less fun realities out there.
The idea that the majority are holier than thou "clueless honks" is about the same that the majority of Ute fans are beer guzzling cocky mormon haters. I'm sure for each fan base this is true for some people, but neither are the majority for sure.
BTW, super long shot for a Taysom heisman even if he tears it up and jumps multiple players on TD runs every game. I think people are just excited that BYU actually has someone that is even mentioned in the same sentence as the word heisman.
As to head and shoulders, tough to compare this year as BYU and Utah don't play. Utah has had BYU's number for sure the last decade or so. Tough to argue that Utah's program is not better than BYU's during that span. The only realistic argument for saying they are about even is that Utah has learned to play better than normal against BYU, but that's iffy.
I'll say this, BYU the last couple of years is much faster than has historically been the case, maybe across the board, and Utah has had a rough go in the Pac12. Probably more even than both fan bases care to think it is.

I liked your post because I agree with most of it, but I don't think it's a toss up over who has a better team this year. It's Utah. Before you just dismiss me as a homer, let me try to make a compelling argument free of smack talk:
-While Taysom is more dynamic than Travis Wilson, Utah has shown that when Wilson is healthy, they can compete with anybody in the nation (just ask Stanford). And for the first time since joining the PAC 12, Utah actually has a back up QB capable of leading the team to wins. Kendall Thompson has been great so far and has seen over 3 quarters worth of action in the first two games.
-BYU gets the edge @ running back because Jamal is a stud. However, Devonte Booker gives Utah a homerun threat at RB as well. When you look at the WR's, Utah added 2 more homerun threats by getting Kenneth Scott back and the addition of Clay. I know BYU is high on the kid Kurtz (sp?), but he has yet to get out and show it yet. Dres Anderson is the best WR in the state and it's not even close. Tongs is also the best TE.
-Defensively, I like BYU's LB's as of now but when Gioni Paul returns from injury. Nate Orchard is the best DL between the 2 teams and overall I'm taking Utah's DL and DB's over BYU's.
-As far as specialists go, Utah has the best punter/kicker combo possibly in the entire nation and with Clay is the easily the best returner from the 2 teams.
Welp, pretty much seals the deal! Congrats on the awesome season bro!!

So this is where we can disagree, and it makes sense.
We both know way more about our own teams.
I hate to admit it, but I've been curious to see how the majority of BYU fans feel about their 2-and-0 start so I ventured over to cougarboard and I was taken aback by a lot of what I read. So many posters on that site claiming that BYU is still head and shoulders above Utah as the better program. Do the BYU fans on this site feel that way? When going back the last 20 years, looking at head to head wins and who's put up bigger seasons with bigger wins on a national scale, how can anybody claim that BYU is head and shoulders above Utah? I have no problem conceding that BYU's fan base has a larger, more rabid footprint due to the LDS members around the globe, and yes BYU has the only NC between the two but to put it as simple as possible: BYU has not outperformed Utah over the past 2 decades.
Another thing that struck me: After 2 wins against UCONN and Texas, so many fans talking Heisman possibilities for Taysom, New Years Day bowl game, and some even thinking BYU had a shot at the playoffs. It quickly reminded me that any time BYU is good, so many of their fans immediately go to a "10" on the expectation level. On the flip side, Utah is also 2-0 and most Utah fans still seem to be of the thinking that getting to 6 wins and a bowl game is going to be a tall order.
It only fueled my biggest critique of BYU fans which is that a majority of them are clueless honks that really think the college football world revolves around them once they manage to field a decent team.
Props to the BYU fans on this board who seem to be able to temper expectations while still rooting on their team . Yes, there are a few of you here.

This argument only comes out when BYU is good. When they suck you don't hear much about it.
So basically, thanks for verifying you think BYU is good.
Dak has the most passing TD's in the country and he has only played in 1.4 games.
