Good post. I'll try to get back to it when I have time. I will say this, right off the bat. I only took stats from Wilson and Hill vs BCS teams from the last two years and I only used stats when Wilson could actually hold the ball. Because I don't care what his stats where when he couldn't grip the ball, because those games are completely irrelevant.
I know a lot of Wilson detractors love to point to those games to show he sucks, but that isn't the most intelligent thing to do, well, because it was a very unique situation. How often is a QB asked to play when he cannot grip the ball? Hardly ever. So, I don't care. You can care if you want to, because Wilson sucked in those games, as would any QB who could not grip the ball.
You did post Hil's overall stats, and that is great. He will have better stats, because his schedule is immensely easier. His opponents suck for the most part. He should have better stats. When you take away the crap opponents and just compare stats vs BCS teams and when Wilson can grip the ball, Wilson's stats are much better.
You mentioned SOS. That stat is crap. BYU gets a boost because they lost to ND, while Utah doesn't get that boost. Let's look at 2012 and the schedules that BYU and Utah played:........
Yet, you're telling me that BYU's schedule was almost twice as hard as Utah's that year. Seriously? Do you honestly believe that BYU's schedule was harder that year, let alone twice as hard? Utah played 9 BCS teams (10 if you count BYU) and BYU played 5. Yet, BYU had the harder schedule?
Do you not believe that Utah wins 9-10 games with BYU's harder schedule, yet was only able to win 5 games with the easier schedule?
SOS is crap in this case.
I like how you only used games against BCS teams (Boise St. Utah St.-twice, and Houston-twice, are as good as lower tier PAC 12 teams that you are counting). And you also throw out Wilson's games where he was injured, but include Taysom's monsoon game against Virginia? You said, "how often is a QB asked to play when he cannot grip the ball? Hardly ever. So, I don't care." I can guarantee Hill couldn't grip the ball against Virginia in that weather, so his 13-40 should be discounted as well, according to that logic. Instead of cherry picking games, how about we take a look at the whole body of work? Just remember Utah had some pretty darn good teams when they weren't a P5 team, so don't just discount all non-P5 teams as not being quality opponents.
First off - Wilson has played a tougher schedule and that is not debatable. However, to discount Taysom's accomplishments and stats and say, "he will have better stats, because his schedule is immensely easier. His opponents suck for the most part." That is absolutely inaccurate. 10 of his 15 starts prior to 2014 have come against bowl teams. 2 of 3 so far this year will go to bowl games. Has Wilson's schedule been tougher? Absolutely. Has is been "immensely easier?" Absolutely not!
Taysom has started against: Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Texas (twice), Utah State (twice), Utah, Houston (twice), Boise St., and Washington. That is 11 of 18 starts against very solid teams. Add in BCS teams Virginia and Georgia Tech, and that is 13 of 18 games against BCS caliber opponents. Middle Tennessee went a to bowl game. That is 14 of 18 games against BCS and/or bowl teams. His only cupcake games were Idaho State - only played a half, (Wilson has them too), Hawaii (Wilson has Weber st.), Uconn (Wilson has Fresno St.), and Nevada. Again, Wilson has overall played a tougher schedule, but Taysom has played a very solid schedule as well. His huge statistical advantage isn't related to schedule differential because it is not that big of an advantage. The difference is that Taysom really is that much better and, again, it's not even close.
