What's new

Congresswoman shot.

Uh? I was being serious. Why do you hate America?

Have you ever applied for a green card? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Thanks to whoever gave me the nice comment with the negative rep. My wife has a green card. When you read my post, did it ever occur to you that perhaps I was being sarcastic? Try reading in context next time.

Im not sure what your trying to insinuate. Again, I ask you, why do you hate the country you live in?

Sorry, I thought you were being sarcastic. I don't hate America. I actually quite enjoy living here. What I can't stand are people who refuse to wait before all the facts are known to start using a tragedy to further their point of view. Wasn't it just a year or so ago at the Fort Hood shootings where everyone was urged to keep a level head and wait for all the facts to come out before they ran off and said that all Muslims were evil? So why is the Tea Party getting blasted for what some insane person did? Where is the call for keeping a level head and waiting for the facts?

Surely said:
before they ran off and said that all Muslims were evil?
When would that ever be a viable position?

Never. That's the point, that some people might think that event justified such thinking. It's not saying it does justify such thinking, it's only saying some might try to use it as justification.

Sort of the same thing here IMO.

Yes we should see this headline:

Giffords Shooting: Obama urges caution amid fears of backlash against Tea Baggers

A few issues here. There are probably very few conspiracy theories that are totally true. Some events are unanswerable and conspiracy theories fill in the answers that people need to reconcile randomness. Those who readily consume conspiracy theories want to and need to psychologically. They are like addictions. Once you buy into one, it is easier to buy into the second. Most people who believe one theory, believe most.

Not to mention the stories can be very well crafted and easily believable to those who are not willing to question everything. I could probably paint as good a picture as anyone about the grand Federal Reserve conspiracy. That doesn't mean I don't think it's all bull **** either. Get enough people behind an idea and it will grow like forest fire. I think this is what really happens in the conspiracy circle. Things become so extravagant, and participants become so inundated with a single POV, that the story becomes reality. It's hard to see any other way when your view is set in stone. Look at The Thriller's track record on here for prime example.

There is already an established history of this nut's evolving Nihlism, he attacked a blue-dog democrat. I think his politics and motive are fairly clear.

I don't know the Congreswoman, or her politics but I reject violence in any form. This is not the way of civil society. Regretably, this will be used to further increase accusations and fear of the the left and the right. The result will be an increase in the power of the police state at the expense of everyones rights and liberties. This has been the pattern for the at least the last 10 years regardless of the party in power. Never let a good tragedy go to waste.

Not sure if this has been posted on here or not, but I agree whole-heartedly with this statement.

The words of Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik should resonate for us all:

"The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on this country is getting to be outrageous. The vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people in the radio business and some people in the TV business ... This has not become the nice United States that most of us grew up in. It's not unusual for all public officials to get threats constantly, myself included. That's the sad thing about what's going on in America: Pretty soon we're not going to be able to find reasonable decent people willing to subject themselves to serve in public office.''

The irony is interesting don't you think?

The same people begging not to paint with a broad brush an entire group of people based on the actions of a small fraction of the same group are now spray painting an entire group due to the actions of somebody not affiliated with them.

More intellectual sophistication from the left.

It is ironic, but you and I both know, there really is no difference between the two sides..other than political leanings. Methods, actions, fringe groups, etc. are all the same across the board.

10-4 to that.

The good news is DeLay is going to the big house for 3 years.
