#2 pick

Perhaps the biggest reason to have optimism that Burks could be kind of a big deal is that he takes all of attributes, and slathers it all in a delicious fearless sauce.

If it comes out that KOC turned down the #2 pick for Al+Burks+GS pick, I'd be slightly bummed, but I'd quickly remember Burks for what he his and what he can become. I think he can be a less powerful/explosive version of Westbrook.

Let's try to remember that for all of his warts, Burks already gets to the line at an all-star rate, is explosive, quick, crafty, can handle the ball, and shoots alright in catch-and-shoot situations.

I think the Bobcats are looking at Robinson as being the #2 player in the draft, and they're not terribly excited about it, especially because they want to develop Biyombo as a defensive PF. Robinson can't play C. K-G and Beal are nice players, but they would normally go 5 - 7 in a normal draft.

If the Jazz offered Kanter and the GSW pick, Charlotte might go for it, but I'm not 100% sure the Jazz would because I don't think they want Robinson necessarily either.

I could see this deal happening:

Jazz send Kanter and 2013 GSW pick -- take back Portland's 2 picks to draft Lillard and maybe Terrence Jones or Harrison Barnes (....or Terrence Ross Ha!).
Portland sends their lotto picks --- takes Charlotte's #2 to draft Robinson, Beal or K-G.....or maybe Drummond if they believe in him.
Charlotte sends #2 and a player -- get Kanter and Utah's 2013 pick

Portland's picks at #6 and #11 aren't really that sexy when you consider there's a perceived drop-off after 5 and probably 9 or 10.

I'm not hitching my wagon to him being the next Kobe, but there's a lot of reason to be very optimistic about the player he could become.

This. Great point.

If you can show me a player worthy of the number 2 pick, then I would do your Al, GS and Burks in a heartbeat. Problem is, there isn't a Durant/Wade/Bosh/Deron available there, and Burks may very well be as good as whoever we would take at #2. If I am going to take a chance, the better risk would be waiting on GS's pick than trading Burks for the #2. Burks is already a somewhat known commodity.

Referring to my previous post, I'm not sure the Jazz would do that deal.

I would trade Devin Harris for a mid first-round pick and take Quincy Miller though. :)

Edit: I'd also trade Millsap and GSW#13 for the #6 or #8 pick to take Lillard.

Considering that I thought Burks might be something like him (substituting power for speed) but with passing skills (I already see better instincts, ability, and willingness to pass than anything I've ever seen from Maggette), I'm pretty happy with that.

I admit Burks has a bright future, but I think you guys have your Jazz goggles on a little too tight. The guy was the 12th pick, and it's not like he had a Faried like rookie year where you'd say oh he should have gone top 5. My thought process is that a #2 pick has a much better chance of reaching a higher ceiling than a #12. The Jazz have good pieces, but does anyone really think we have any all-NBA 1st or 2nd teamers currently on our roster? Sounds like I'm in the minority, but I'd package a #12 and a #10-15 next year for #2 this year. Yeah I'm not going to get a Durant (who is a once in a decade type player), but I could get a Westbrook or a Love or a Ray Allen.

I get this line of thinking, but which player in the draft is worth the #2 pick?

Here are top 3 picks recently:
Irving, Williams, Kanter
Wall Turner, Favors
Griffin, Thabeet, Harden
Rose, Beasley, Mayo
Oden, Durant, Horford

Is there a player that fits in this mold that would be available with the #2? I'd do it for Harden, Thabeet, Durant, etc.

Though, if Burks being traded leaves a vacancy, I suppose it makes some room for Beal...

He is a wing...

...and his shooting percentage is extra saucy.

I'm with you here, and I think that if we can get #2 without giving up Favors or Kanter, we should probably do it. The #2 pick is a nice asset whether we keep it or not. The problem is that even though this draft is deep, it's not really that strong at the top. I also understand if some people think that Burks is as good a prospect as Beal is.

Problem is that there is no clear #2 in this draft, which is why Charlotte is willing to deal. 2-5 are probably about equal in terms of talent and potential. It is not a draft where there is Oden and Durant and there is a debate over who should be #1.

Too bad Corey Maggette was never on a good team. Hopefully Burks can do what Maggette did in his prime, but on a winning team.
As a fervent Big Al hater, I know this is heresy for me to say, but I think on the Jazz (off the bench preferably), I think he could've really helped. Maggette certainly never helped abysmal teams be anything but, but it's hard to say that in a different situation, his fate would be sealed as a total ball-hog.
