What's new

2011 draft.....

guys, you're underrating kanter... he will be a similar player to boozer, but with more size and at least average defense. he's going to be a 20-10 player in this league. it's time to move harris and jeffersen for a valuable small forward or shooting guard and point guard and build around the cornerstone of kanter, favors and the new aquired solid point guard. this team could be a very solid team within 2-3 years. bring millsap of the bench and try to sign ak for a 3-4 year contract, 6 millions/year. that's how we should rebuild.

c-favors - elson
pf-kanter - millsap
sf-kirilenko - cj
sg-new guy - hayward
pg-new guy - watson

Do you think Montiejunas could play center? In other words, we could have Jefferson and Favors in the pivot on offense and have Montiejunas in the lane on defense, similar to what the Jazz tried to do with Okur. The question is whether Montiejunas will play defense and rebound at least as well as, say, a Pau Gasol, something Okur really couldn't do consistently.

Great question. I was only watching game film and not looking at his measurments. I found out that watching euro games and under 18 games is hard because the guys are young and nearly everyone is thin. I think Monti is only 230 or something, that might be a problem. Offensivley he could play the C in the Jazz system because he can hit the three, pass from the high post and put the ball on the floor if needed. Defensivley uh.....he can jump, but he's not a banger. The biggest thing for me is he played aggressive and forced the game to change around him, if he would do that on defense then he will be fine.

Underkanter,

With "new guy," "new guy," AK, and rookie Kanter, we're sure to be ****ing set. My personal fave is having "new guy" ahead of Hayward on the depth chart. Moran.

Didn't say either was better, but they match up differently. When I watched the two games I saw the 2010 USA class challenging more shots at the rim even though Kanter killed them. Bismak doesn't play like Kanter and I think Barnes & Jones in particular would've matched up well against Bismak. If he didn't show as well he would not have bursted into the lottery. Of course he might've killed them too, and then he would be a top 3 pick. I just didn't see it.

Thats a really good point. I could've been watching the dudes very first game in spain....tracking progression is hard with half an hour and you-tube. I'll have to look at what game I watched. Like I said he is difficult to figure out, I had him as 2 or 3 till I watched the Spain game, but even that was based on his athletism, and I am just not a fan of picking athletes and teaching them basketball--it usaully doesn't yield results. So I put him #5.

Fran Fraschilla agrees with you. Does not see Bismack as good as Ibaka and has him as the fifth ranked intl player.

My international top 5
1. Biyombo- Athletic, already a defensive stud, excellent rebounder, very physical and long, dunks everything, also very young, ? about his O, very limited outside of dunking but his post moves at the Nike Summit were actually pretty impressive to me at least. Reminds me of Ibaka
2. Kanter- Big bruiser, but not very athletic, very young, great rebounder but ? about his D and knees and athleticism. I like the Boozer comparison
3. Donatas- Best offensive game, very crafty and skilled, athletic, can pass, can stroke it run the floor, ? about strength and D. Reminds me of a quicker Memo with guard skills
4. Vessely- Dunks everything, great size and length for SF, hustle guy, high energy, ? about shooting, weight. Reminds me of AK
5. Jonas- Efficient on O, great length and heigth, very young, high potential, looks like a stiff to me, not really athletic and can't defend the post or hold his post position on offense. Looks lost on the court and reminds me of a much skinnier Kosta

So who do the Jazz really need? IMO, the Jazz need either a defensive guy like Biyombo or a big that can stretch the floor for Favors/Al which would be Donatas. Kanter would be a solid pick too but would probably trade Millsap if we picked Kanter

im still heated my ***** perry jones isnt coming out, this draft is so weak.

dont get the hype on biyambo.....i mean hes 6'8 and yall want him playin C?

real talk, i'd almost draft chris singleton. obviously hes not projected even at 12 but maybe they trade that pick for something and have another team draft him for them. he has the size, versatility, and athleticism for his position and can be a good defender. couldve been a lottery pick last year.

knight and burks should be the picks if they are still on the board

do not want kanter, leonard, jimmer, or the morris twins

terrence jones has the talent but seems like one of those guys who will never realize his full potential

Is Derrick Favor's big enough to play Center? They are the same size.

The thing that interests me most about Motiejunas BY FAR is his court-vision and ability to pass. His shooting is nice, as is his natural feel for offense, but literally everything else about him as a player I find downright repulsive. His rebounding rate is putrid, he mails in games in a mystifying way, and he doesn't know how and doesn't care to defend (Jimmer-esque in that respect). You'd better be Dirk Nowitski on offense because you're not sniffing a championship if you have a big playing serious minutes that doesn't do the things mentioned (and well known of the kid). All I care about is a championship, and I can't see him being one of your important players if you're serious about that. There is a much stronger corollary between bruisers with little offense winning championships than purely offensive, mentally fragile finesse players that only get bruised when it gets tough, and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

And of all the bigs in this draft, the only that seems to have the foundation for a bruiser and defensive stopper is Biyombo. To me, Kanter seems like he could be the most balanced of the prospects, but he's far from a sure thing either. Him opting to not play in the Kentucky Combine is something I am seriously wary of.

Derrick Favors officially measured 6-10.25 in shoes.
Bismack Biyombo is listed at 6-8 maybe 6-9 - so they're not quite the same size.

6' 9" in shoes. 7' 7" wingspan, 9' 3" standing reach. His standing reach is the same as Favors, and I'm pretty sure he weighs significantly more than Favors did in college.

maybe but where does that leave jefferson? if you draft north dakota you got him, favors, al, and sap. so unless you move somebody it doesnt really work. favors needs to start and get as many minutes as possible.

how bout trading with washington for their picks and maybe a future? 6/12 for 4/18. that would assure kemba/knight/veseley and take singleton at 18 to be a glue guy off the bench.

And if he is young like they say he is, then he still can grow even more.

I happen to think he's on to something here. After reading this board for the last few months, I think it's fair to say that we'd be much improved with a lineup like this:

new guy/new guy
Hayward/new guy
new guy/Hayward
Favors/new guy
new guy/Favors
