What's new

2011 draft.....

Barnes would be crazy to go back to school. He's a late lottery pick in a normal year. And he's just not that great a prospect. But this year he'll go 3-8. No brainer.

Late lottery pick? Billy, I usually feel you're brilliant but you're way off here. In any year, the kid would be a top six or seven pick, at worst. He was the #1 recruit coming out of high school, is a silky smooth 6'8" wing who can shoot and seems best in big games and big moments, and has a great head on his shoulders. He needs to work on his ability to penetrate and become more efficient but as far as ability, the kid has "it."

I don't see 'silky smooth' when I look at him. He's an opportunistic driver, but he doesn't break his man down off the dribble with a quick first step or a great handle. His shot's Ok, but his motion is long which I don't like. He's got two good hands and a high release which is good. Relative to the draft, he looks about on par with Hayward, George, or Henry. That's not bad, but it's nothing I'd use a Top 5 pick on.

Someone is going to have to explain to me what Jones can do on a basketball court. He's about half the player Aminu was in college. I see a good athlete who doesn't know what to do when he's up against a skilled player.

Some observations after the NC/KY game
Harrison Barnes: Slightly subpar game probably won't drop him out of the top 3 if he does declare. A true SF that will probably be an elite shooter with that form.
Terrence Jones: Looks like a tweener to me. Can't shoot good enough to be a great SF, too small to play PF. Relatively low IQ as well, not interested at all at 6, worth a look at 12.
John Henson: Rebounding and blocking may not translate given his weight. He would have to gain at least 50 lbs to play center! That might not be possible, his FT% is the nail. Pass on him both picks.
Brandon Knight: Impressive 18 year old, good shooter, can play PG or SG. Given Harris is a stop gap, might end up very high on KOC's big board as well.

It looks slower than it is. He's longer than the three you mention, so he has longer to wait to make an action, which lets him read the defense more. He's also a very good defender. I'd call him close to an elite college defender. He's also a willing off ball guy. He has no issues setting screens for other players. He puts effort into it, which is something say, Jordan Hamilton, a guy who will go in the mid-teens with similar game, doesn't do.

If it was up to me, I'd draft the best Euro at 6 and leave him overseas. I'd then look to package the 12 with Bell to get the best NBA wing we can. Somebody buried on a depth chart. Probably a contender who we could swap firsts with as part of the deal. My guess knowing KOC is we end up with Knight or Walker at 6. He's an in the box thinker and he'll want to be grooming the PG of the future. With the 12 he'll just take the best wing left on the board.

See, I would bring in Brandon Knight to replace Raja right now. Harris plus Knight would be two quick guards, 6'3" and 6'4" who can handle, pass, drive and score inside and out. That's what what we need to run a system, not people standing out on the wing who are no threat to anybody. Plus, it takes some pressure off of Harris and frees him up a bit.

Maybe some one can answer a question does this years draft fall under the current CBA? If so then they are on this pay scale. If I was a player coming out I would be worried that under the next CBA thet would lower the rookie scale which is also being talked about.

Come out when the gettings good. Not to mention they also run the risk of injury and never making it. (Desean butler (spelling)) or playing worse and losing money.

And give up 120 a night.

Barnes is more polished, but I'm not sold on him being better than Hayward or Paul George a year from now. He can't get by anybody. That makes him like a Luol Deng or Steve Smith, not that those are bad players.

I can't answer your question but I too want to hear the answer.
Kenwood?

Anyone else hoping UConn's Jeremy Lamb declares this year? He wasn't planning to but has blown up recently and possesses freak length at 6'5" with a 7'2" wingspan. He is a better defender and shooter than Alec Burks, but not the slasher Burks is.
Would love to get him here as a future SG.

My understanding is that the draft happens under the new CBA, but the draftees can't sign contracts until after the free agent moratorium, which would happen after the CBA expires. In essence, they can draft players, and retain their rights, but will sign them under the new CBA and whatever rules it will have in place for draft picks.

Yeah, I've been really impressed with Jeremy Lamb this year too. He is definitely turning heads, so it would make sense for him to enter the draft.

Just to clarify - do you think Knight might be gone before the number 6 pick or the 12th pick?

with his current performance he will be gone around 7-8 , it would be good if we get a higher quality guy at 6 and steal knight on 12, but i think its impossible anymore, he wont be as good as paul williams or rose but im sure he will be on the same level with jennings or curry

Knight should go probably within a spot or two of Kemba Walker.
