2016-17 Hype Train Playoff Chase!!!

Spurs are only 1 game back in the loss column behind the Warriors. If they got the 1st seed that changes everything. Can you imagine playing the Clippers/Grizzlies and then the Spurs? We could legit make the WCF.

They actually hold their fate in their hands at this point. They have 2 more games against the Warriors, both at home on the back end of back to backs for Golden State.

I know San Antonio are a great team, but I'm definitely hoping for them over the warriors if KD gets back in time. Getting a bit ahead of myself picking a second round opponent though i suppose lol.

Yeah I've been rooting for SA to make a push for a while now. GS clearly is beatable without KD, but if he gets back healthy I still don't see anyone beating them in 7 games. So hopefully they can have as tough of a time as possible throughout the playoffs and the only easy out in the West should be 1 vs. 8. All other series the rest of the way could be tough and avoiding GS till possibly the WCF would be ideal. Of course that'll still require getting past another 60 win Spurs team.....

Jazz went into Houston and smacked them around last night. Clutchfans has officially been put on 48 hour psych watch.

The Clippers then lost to the Wolves!! Pelicans, Kings, Warriors and Nuggets also lost.

Spurs and T-Wolves were the only other west teams to win last night.

Crazy thing will be if the Jazz get the third seed and end up facing the Warriors in the 2nd round because they fell to the 2nd seed...

After last night's games the Jazz are 3 games back on Houston and own the tie breaker, 2.5 games ahead of the Clips, 4.5 games ahead of the Grizzlies and 5.5 games ahead of the Thunder. Even 11.5 ahead of the 8th seeded Nuggets.

Tonight's games:

Two big games!!

Clippers @ Grizzlies (Clips are closer)
Spurs @ Thunder

Sixers @ Blazers
Lakers @ Suns

Due to the narrow gap and possible seeding matchups I am not sure how I want the Spurs/Thunder game to shake out. Go for best 1st round match up possible and don't worry about the 2nd round? Or look at the whole bracket and hope for a favorable 2nd round matchup?

OP updated!

I'm a Debbie Downer but let's just remember Utah has a really rough schedule compared to Houston. The likelihood of them catching up is low.
Next time the Jazz lay an egg, which will happen, and all the usual suspects go chicken little AGAIN after acting like they were on ecstacy last night, let's not forget lasts night game and remain positive.

the jazz don't have the luxury to think about 2nd round matchups. The key issue is to get homecourt in the first round to get a better chance of getting out of that round. If the Jazz make it to the second round, the season is a success whatever happens.

4th seed.
Hayward re-signs
Booker it

I can imagine you guys are having a lot of fun prognosticating what teams the Jazz will play on the road to a championship this year, but one, it's WAYYY too early to think we know where things are going to end up and two, no team is going to try to game the standings by dropping seeding to get a better path through the playoff bracket. Never. You just try to win for the best seeding possible and then just try to win as much as possible in the playoffs. So as a previous poster stated...

Just win.

I agree just win but like you said, it's fun.

Hypothetical

Let's say the race for the 1st seed comes down to the Spurs final game(@ Utah). Do you rest players so that Westbrook gets an early shot at the Warriors?

If it doesn't change our own seeding then sure.

Thunder beat Spurs by 10 and Clippers beat Grizzlies by 16.

Jazz a full 2 games up on the Clippers, a full 5 games up on the Thunder and Grizzlies.

Spurs/Thunder first round meeting would be interesting.

We're going to be playing the Clippers in the first round it seems like.

As long as the Jazz have homecourt I like our chances. What you don't want is a newbie playoff team like the Jazz starting off on the road. It will be a super hostile environment, and I would expect some deer in the headlight moments.

LaMarcus Aldridge is out indefinitely with a heart arrhythmia. They are very vulnerable now. I don't see them falling from the #2 seed but they aren't getting the #1. Seeds 3, 6, 7 are the most favorable now, imo. We need to stay out of the 4/5. Is that going to happen? Probably not.

Holy crap!

Seriously, if no LMA, no Durrant the path to the WCF just got a little easier.

I hope the guy is going to be okay. Is heart arrhythmia something that clears up and is no longer a concern? Doesn't sound like it but I have no idea.
