2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

The Wizard are pretty bad, and are way more than one average starter away from being in win-now mode. I don't know their management, but I assume they're rational people who don't want their ceiling to be a first round exit. I bet they try to blow it up. They can get good assets for Beal, and use whatever they get from OPJr to offload Wall.

their GM has been there forever and the owner said he "would never tank". I'm guessing they are more interested in making the playoffs than picking up draft assets. They aren't rational imo... which makes it hard to make a deal.

I’m sure this has probably been posted already. But I think we hold on tight this season (unless an unbelievable offer comes our way obviously), and we make this guy our number one priority in the offseason.

Yep, I'm with you. Go all-in on him and see what happens.

I think SVG's comments needed to be prefaced by pointing out the elephant in the room.

I think he could get better and be a small ball 4. He is the same weight but an inch taller than PJ Tucker. If we can groom him to be that, what an asset he could be.

I was a big Stanley Johnson fan at the draft... I’m out. The shooting is so bag and the defense isn’t good enough.

PJ’s physical profile is a small part of what makes him awesome. He had to work his way back in the league and he has so much fight to him. Plays defense like he’s starving and you are taking his food. He’s a brute for sure but his effort and willingness to do anything make him great. Figured out the shot obvi which Stanley could do... I doubt he learns to fight like PJ though.

SVG was on le batard show when Harris came on... SVG trades him but had nothing but good things to say.

Another guy that would help... Terrence Ross... as long as Orlando thinks they can compete they will keep him though. I wonder if he is an undervalued free agent this summer doe. He’s been cooking.

Utah Jazz

The Jazz have built their roster through the draft and trades, with free agency as a distant third option. That is why the scenario of Utah becoming a player in the free-agent chase should be met with hesitancy.

The team could create north of $20 million in room but that would come at the expense of starters Derrick Favors and Ricky Rubio.

I agree with this statement on ESPN. It is extremely unlikely we are players for a good FA. The Jazz arent going to waive two starter level NBA players to chase a hopeful free agent. It is much more likely that we make a trade if one opens up or try to retain or players and wait for the right trade. Especially a RFA. There is almost no chance we make an offer to a RFA this off season.

I like the op Jr idea... right time frame... two way player and there may be more to him. He’s played with Wall his whole career... guy does nothing when he doesn’t have the ball and playing with a guy that controls the ball so much but doesn’t help offball may have stunted what he could become.

Someone pointed to his college assist numbers as a sign there is more there they haven’t uncovered. I think he can be the combo forward we’ve wanted and at very least is a really solid player to add to our dynamic guys. Advanced on/off numbers have always loved him... there is still some mystery there imo.

I'm in agreement that he would seemingly fit better, but as I said the I don't know if the risk is worth it.

It is pretty unlikely but one trade I would like is Favors and Rubio for Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier. For them it gets out of Fournier's contract and gives them two really good players that are expiring but gives them the bird rights. For us it gives us Gordon who could be the perfect fit at the 4 for us. He can play defense, handle the ball, and shoot the 3. He has a ton of potential to be a really good player. Fournier is having a down year but he is only 26 and can shoot the ball very well. He could be starter next to Mitchell or be the 6th man type roll for us. Plus he is friends with Gobert and I think he would be more motivated to play well. I would even include a 1st round pick for this deal. I doubt the Magic are willing to give up on Gordon yet. It is a risk for us since we are taking on 2 bigger long term contracts but I think it is worth the risk.

Mitchell, Exum, Neto
Fournier, Korver
Ingles, Royce, Sef
Gordon, Crowder, Niang
Gobert, Ekpe, Bradley

I like the potential for that team to go far. It has a lot of versatility, a lot of depth, shooting, athleticism, and playmaking. If Exum develops he can start, if he stays the same he is a solid backup PG/Combo Guard and can play great defense in certain situations.

Of course you like it. Orlando would never do that.

RFA I agree... we can make an offer to an unrestricted free agent without waiving Ricky or Favs though. So if no one bites you keep Favs option and keep Ricky's caphold.

I think DL is somewhat consumed with getting something done in FA. I think our plan B is Niko... Pelicans have prioritized Randle and are struggling a bit. Not super appealing to give Niko 20M a year or whatever it will take, but we could be the leader in the clubhouse if we want.

I'm really like the idea of putting our first rounder in a deal for someone on a rookie deal... I've pitched Taureen Prince. Preserves space... helps now and get someone that can grow too. I don't see many candidates for this type of trade unfortunately.

I think Plan B is to just pick up Faves option and try again next FA. There's only 2 shot w/ Don on a rookie contract.

Yeah, I dont see the Jazz doing that. We just dont chase FAs very often, nor has DL ever done it. But maybe this is the year that changes but I doubt it. FAs will be overpaid again this year and DL does not like to overpay. I think it is most likely we trade for a vet on a decent contract or one that we liked before and can get their bird rights.

I still want TJ Warren, I think he's an under the radar difference maker that could really excel with us.
