2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

They clearly don’t hit it on every deal.
But they always hit. And we should assume that everyone on the roster is a hit. Until they aren’t. Then we credit them for recognizing they weren’t a hit and letting them go.

ARE we punching our ticket with defense? I like having a bench that is offensively potent. If we want to go back to last year's "ugly it up and hope they don't score" bench play, Davis is more than sufficient.
You really haven’t been following along. Davis hasn’t been protecting the rim or rebounding at all like he was last year AND he’s been arguably THE worst offensive player in the NBA. Bradley didn’t start playing because he was so good he forced Quin’s hand, his hand was forced by Davis being - frankly - pure dog ****. I’m not sure if he’s injured or what but it is bad.

A lot has changed over the course of the season. The 2nd unit offense no longer has Mudiay with tunnel vision or Green just chilling. It no longer features Joe Ingles trying to play a style of basketball that he’s never had to by playing PnR with a completely incompetent big. Mudiay has improved and he won’t even be in the rotation. We now have Clarkson, and one or both of Conley and Mitchell are spending significant time in that group as well. That lineup is going to take and make a ton of shots regardless of the big, and that is a complete 180 from the beginning of the season.

In any case, this version of Davis wasn’t and won’t be a plus player in any phase of the game. And Bradley has been bad in intense game environments. The Jazz are going to be in serious trouble if this is the playoff roster.

I attended the Hawks /Clippers game tonight. I was paying particular attention to Len. He played most of his minutes against Harrell. I wasn't too impressed with Len. But he was definitely better than any minutes Davis played this season.

Harrell ate his lunch but Len could be of value to us.

agree

Len replacing Ed, yes. given he's also an expiring.

replacing bradley, no.

I definitely would rather have Bradley than Len. But if we can somehow get Len as a 3rd big keeping TB and giving Davis+, that would be a good move.

yep, all the backup center talks to this point are definitely more geared towards finding a 3rd string Ed davis replacement than upgrade over bradley.

When we really get serious about winning we will just play Juwan as the backup 5.

I just don't think we have the assets to acquire Baynes, unfortunately. I think the Suns would want a first round pick for him.

Or a good second like the GS one Dallas owns. As long as they are in striking distance I think they keep him. I doubt they get a first unless they take on bad salary or also put Saric in the deal.

I honestly think he's a tad over-rated.

I think he’s a bit overrated too but I think we should be looking for a guy whose not rated at all right now who will have their stock rise with us. I’m looking at Noah Vonleh.

Yup... I'd look at Taj Gibson, but even he might be out of the price range with our assets.

Juwan is the guy... we sleeping on him.

If we are really trying to win a championship this year we will upgrade TB and Niang by the playoffs... Look at the Clips they are looking for more wing depth and another big... shiiiiiitttt they got a ton already.

Say Juwan works at the center and provides a little spacing... you can try and get a guy like McKinnie on a 10 day in Cleveland... a big rebounding wing and good defender... with a shaky jumper and I like that lineup instead of Niang and TB.

He probably is a bit overrated but I think he'd be such a perfect fit on the Jazz. If only our asset cupboard wasn't so bare.

I think Taj is in New York to be close to family for medical reasons, don't think he'll be moving.

Juwan should never be on the floor except for blow outs.

I mean because TB is so effective and is such a finished product we’d be crazy to put Morgan in.

Juwan is a little older than TB and way more experienced. TB played 553 minutes in college... Morgan played almost 3000... I know its college, but its highly competitive basketball.

Juwan averaged almost 4 assists per 36 minutes (with very low turnovers) in the g league... passing is one of the things that shows feel for the game. Juwan's g league numbers are far superior to TB's and honestly like just bonkers... things like blocks and steals translate and either show feel for the game (anticipation) or that the player has elite quickness/athleticism. They weren't just empty numbers either... his offensive rating was 149 and defensive rating was 98... Everyone's darling Jarrell Brantley (I love him too not hating) has some good numbers but his net rating is even - Ortg 104 Dfrtg 104.

A young Rudy Gobert went down to the G League for 8 games year's ago... he dominated... his ORTG was 143 and his DRTG was 101. Rudy rebounded more per 36 and got 1 more block per game... Juwan scored more and had a higher TS% while also shooting threes. It wasn't just that Juwan was good in the G League and got some numbers... he was as basically as dominant as any player has ever been in the G League.

TB is a HOF compared to Morgan right now. Dude is a deer in the headlights out there.
You are wrong... he's only played a couple meaningful minutes in the NBA and is playing as the 4 in garbage time... they ask him to stay in the corner. Watch some of his defensive possessions and you'll see it. If he was operating as the role man things would be different. I will trust his 4 years in college and the full game tapes we have from the G League over garbage time. Go watch his G league highlights and then come talk to me.
