2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Orlando just lost Franz Wagner to a torn oblique which is the same injury Banchero suffered. I would think they need to make some kind of move as they don't have much offense on the roster after those two.
Brandon Ingram is on the shelf for awhile with a "badly sprained ankle."

Denver has no bench. If they're serious about contending, they need to trade out picks and whatever salary they can muster for one or two guys who can help them.

Something like MPJ + picks for Cam Johnson + DFS. Or maybe they'd talk to us about Sexton & Collins. They're in the 2nd apron and have little flexibility.

Per Shams it sounds like Miami may make Jimmy Butler available in trade. He wouldn't mind playing in Houston but the Warriors would make a ton of sense for him too. Dallas is the other team on his list but they don't have much to deal.

Shams also mentioned the Blazers and Nets are open to dealing their vets ahead of the deadline which has already been reported/speculated for months.

Evan Sidery:
"One name who will not be available on the trade market after league-wide exploratory interest: Walker Kessler.
The Jazz view Kessler as a key young piece for their future.
Kessler is putting together a career-best season averaging 10.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.0 blocks."

Ya, didn’t think it made sense to trade him. They need good young talent that’s part of the future (home grown)

Kessler doesn't really do any of the modern stuff (switching, shooting 3's, etc) but he's elite at the things he does well.

I don't see how they can trade him especially considering the lack of progress by Ainge's recent draftees.

If they are committed to throwing games at the coaching level (and there isn’t some insane offer out there), then, correct, there is no reason to trade Kessler. It’s a long season though, and trading him remains the simplest way to ensure losses since he’s the keystone to the defense.

You can just play cody Williams if you want to lose games that badly. Much simpler than trading Walker.

I think Walker has established himself enough to be part of the "sore back" crew in the second half of the season. My main motivation to trade Kessler would be if we got an elite, high value draft pick and/or prospect. He's been great, but there are teams that should value him greatly and more than us so opportunity for trade can arise. The Jazz will value him for long term production, but the immediate production on a rookie scale contract is not of value. Another team could value both his immediate and future value.

Your ‘elite’ comment is most salient to all this- you don’t trade young NBA talent that have elite skills unless you’re getting elite back or a guaranteed top 3ish pick, even if it’s just a center with limited offensive skills. It’s too hard to acquire elite skills to give it away.

Kessler is a little weird to not trade in that his main value is that he's a league average starting center while making almost none of the cap which is wildly valuable to like the Suns.

He'll get a 5 year extension between $125m and $150m next year and his value will then be back to neutral.

It's tough because we're so far away that none of these guys are probably going to provide any benefit to the next Jazz playoff team and they'll all be on different teams or out of the league when the Jazz can compete in five years.

You do need quality starters at each position so the Jazz keeping Kessler means they need one fewer piece in the rebuild, but the team is so far away that he may be gone by the time the Jazz can compete.

But it does remind me of how we basically wasted all of Lauri's great contract on basically nothing.

Would the Nuggets do this?

Zeke Nnaji is terrible. Losing MPJ's elite shooting would be tough, but they get two players for one while saving money and getting off a bad long term contract. Pickett is there to make the money work. Would be waived. Both Sexton and Collins are shooting above 40% from 3. Sexton would be lethal on offense next to Joker.

Give MPJ a bigger role in Utah and see what he can do.

Feel like the Nuggets have to do something to give them another starting level body. You can probably argue no first round pick should be involved, but the Nuggest dont have any 2nds to trade.
