2024 NBA Draft Reaction Thread

This year they got lucky and got their guy, last year they did not get their guy. Don't think the results based analysis changes my thoughts on the "half tank" strategy.
It's more that the uncertainty is a strong argument against a "proper" tank though: There was always a chance of getting one of the best players on our board even with a "half tank", and the results simply confirm that.

I mean hell, maybe Keyonte ends up with a better career than Scoot. And maybe if we did a proper tank in 22-23, we end up with Scoot and don't draft Keyonte.

It's not as cut and dry as "Proper tank = Getting a superstar". There's a great chance doing a "proper tank" meant unloading Lauri/Sexton and only getting marginally better value in the draft (or hell, even worse value).

Right. This draft was weak at the top and they got their guy. But they don’t get a pass for 2023 or if they half *** it again in 2025 with Flagg on the board. Hopefully they have learned their lesson.

I don't necessarily disagree with that....I'm just saying the hard result shouldn't matter much when there is such high variability. It's about the process. If Cody was taken ahead of us and we had another "he was our worse case scenario" statement from JZ, that also should not change shouldn't matter much. We know the risks/benefits ahead of time.

God this is one of my favorite times of the basketball year, where I'm super high on all our rookies and convinced they'll all develop into integral pieces going forward
Then then the Jazz FO will sign some average free agent to play ahead of the young players.

Well without the half tank you don't have the Lakers pick and you probably don't have Filipowski or Collier on the team. Does that change your analysis?

Outside of getting Wemby in 2023, which was only going to be a 17% at best (correct me if I'm wrong on the exact number) the Jazz have done better than any pure tanking scenario outcome.

So kindly get ****ed and stop being so damn annoying.

Now I will say, I think the Jazz are currently in a fantastic position to do more of a natural tank. The roster is nearly full of young talent under 23 years old, there aren't many available roster spots to be filled by veterans, they appear to be actively trying to trade Clarkson/Collins, they seemingly want to re-sign a guy like Juzang over bringing in a veteran, and the draft appears to be strong (always wary of the pre-season declarations about this stuff because of the Wiggins draft).

So for all the whiny *** bitches who constantly cry about "no plan" well selling off your vets for value as you gradually stock young talent so you can be setup for two back to back strong classes kind of seems like a plan to me (if that ends up being the case)

But who knows maybe the Jazz shock everyone this year and are actually competitive because they drafted and developed so well then we will have to hear the endless stream of tears about the Jazz ruining the tank by drafting good players.

Who was our guy that we missed out on?

We were getting Key regardless of how good or bad we tanked. Key was drafted 16 with the Twolves pick

Danny said there is no plan… it’s fair to criticize some of their issues. This up coming season and what it results in is probably the time to start giving some serious analysis… last two years has been really a weird transition period. Kinda letting the waves take us a bit… it’s time to start steering the ship a bit more.

Isn’t letting the season play out and then deciding whether to pull the cord or not a plan though?
