Holy ****ing ****.

Most redonkulous post of the off season, and I have read every one of Orangello's posts.

What's ridiculous about it? In most years late firsts are available for $3M in cash. Teams like Miami, or teams trying to clear cap space to go after big name FA's are willing to get rid of their first rounders. I didn't mention the straight cash option, but I could almost guarantee Miami would trade their 30th pick for the 35th if that was the scenario. Look at the deals that were done in the last draft. Perhaps I was a bit TOO generous in what Utah would need to give up. Maybe Utah trades their 2nd and GS' 1st to move up into the late teens. Then sees a player they really like in the late 20's and buys another pick.

Wut?^

I don't care how many words you type it is insane to even talk about our 2nd round pick being as good as an unprotected 1st round pick in what people are saying is "Most Loaded Darft of all Timez!!"

The non-gauranteed contract thing is extremely overrated, especially in a stacked draft.

If you had a crystal ball and knew for sure that the GST pick would be 27th and the Jazz pick would be 33rd (srsly the absolutely closest these picks could possibly be) then yeah, MAYBE you can make the argument a non gauranteed pick is better, but I'd hope we are paying our scouts and GM to be able to utilize a pick in a stacked draft instead of giving them training wheels by allowing them to **** up the pick so bad that we don't sign the guy. How many early 2nd rounders ever go unsigned??

Likely, the GST pick will be around 22, and Utah's will be around 38. Move 16 slots down and pick a worse player so that we don't have t pay him if we don't want too. OK.

And I haven't even gotten to the part where we'd be giving up an unprotected 1st round pick for Jimner Burdett.

ROFLcopter.

Egg on my face here, UGLI.

The original question was regarding Utah's 2nd round pick and I meant I'd give up GS' 2nd round pick (not that unprotected 1st). Only problem is we don't get a 2nd-rounder from GS in 2014. Just looked it up and those come in 2016 and 17, I believe. Got confused there. Alternately, if I had just finished my sentence it would have made sense. although someone would have corrected me on the years. Let's chalk it up to 1) late evening; 2) long week at work and 3) old age. Good thing I've decided to retire at 10,000 posts.

My point about the 33-35 (where I hope the Jazz draft) being almost as valuable as the 25 (where I think GS will end up) stands. Teams with cap problems, that don't want a rookie hold so they can go after the big FA's may find that type of trade attractive (i.e. giving up a late 1st for an early 2nd). Jazz could probably get an additional pick like they did with Gobert and maybe then do a trade to move up a few spots if they want. And I'm talking about moving up with the GS pick, not the Jazz'. I doubt anyone in the top 8 or so will trade down - even a couple of spots.

I see what you're sayin in the first paragraph. I will sleep better knowing you were saying you would only give up what you thought was a worse 2nd rounder than our own. When I first read it I was just blown away that someone would be adamant about trading an unprotected 1st instead of a 2nd rounder haha.

I can get on board with an early 2nd being as valuable as a late 1st if it is strictly a trade asset. It's obviously more flexible. I still think the benefit of non gaurantee'd contracts to early 2nd rounders is a tad overstated though, and especially in this draft I'd rather pick 8 spots earlier than have the non gaurantee'd contract.

What I'd pay max for Jimmer right now:
GSW '14 2nd. Rights to swap 2nd rounders with the Jazz in both '14 and '15. That would be my absolute BEST offer.
Or something like take an unwanted contract back that runs 2 years in addition to handing them Biedrins back. But then we'd need a 2nd rounder in that deal and not give up one of ours.
Something like Thornton + Jimmer for Biedrins. Other possibilities are Outlaw + Jimmer for Biedrins. Or str8 up trade exception + future 2nd for Jimmer.

For the record... I don't want Jimmer. Just don't really see him as any better than about the 11th guy.

my thoughts on this trade

I think jimmer is better than most on this board think.

He's a great college player but in the NBA he's having to get his shot off against guys that are longer, stronger, faster, and more athletic than he can handle.

But its the defensive liability thingy that seals it.

And by seals I mean dog mermaids.

Don't want that circus infecting this young team! I don't want all these wired BYU fans coming out of the woodwork infecting jazzfanz. I like the team the way it is, and like jazzfanz the way it is. Thankyou.

True that some byu fans would be annoying about having jimmer on the jazz.... but the worst part would be all the ute fans that would hate him so much just cause he played at byu and never give him a chance even if he played well

^Both great reasons to leave a sub-par NBA player on another team.

True.

I still think jimmer could be somewhere between eddie house and jason terry (closer to house)
And house played a lot of valuable minutes in the nba.... I think jimmers story in the nba is not over yet

I don't disagree. I actually think he could be decent. Just not good enough to warrant all the turmoil if playing for the Jazz.

Probably right.
I don't really want to deal with it
