Bill Simmons Article Discusses Jazz Tank Among Other Things

haha nice find!
That he adds Kanter to the gang of the scrubs shows that he has no clue on Jazz team.
Kanter may turn out to be the BEST player of this roster, this season!

Don't take it personal. Im sure he knows that kanter is good he is just making a point that mysterious injury bugs may appear on the dnp list.

Who knows? How many people said the Jazz would NEVER tank? We're obviously tanking right now, it's just a question of how far we're willing to take it. I think there's at least a slight chance we might have some mysterious injuries and lineups toward the end of the year, if a bottom three record is within reach.

Those of us that said that, I was a loud one (perhaps the loudest most outspoken one), were talking about what Simmins is suggesting. Faking injuries, playing the worse players on the team in crunch time... Making in game adjustments so that you can lose. That is pathetic.

Building around your youth and going out to win every game and letting the chips fall where they may is a whole nother road. You may end up in the same place (lottery) but one is a good road and one is crap.

Agree. The jazz are transitioning from Al and Sap to the c4. Make no mistake the jazz will try to win games.

Bills more of a fun journalist for me-- as opposed to one who really hits the nail on the head time, and time again.

And I don't blame him, really. He's far too busy to follow each and every single team in the NBA (unlike Zach Lowe, who I'm pretty sure watches nearly every game of every team).

I love reading his stuff-- but I'm never floored when one of his takes on the Jazz is just flat-out wrong (ie telling us to max Jefferson on TV, dead seriously)

Don't think we're gonna tank. Our core wants to prove themselves for their next contract. Only way that were not winning >30 games is is if the injury bugs hits

He really said that on tv? I have a hard time believing that.

Simmons might not be a good mega dork X's and O's guy, but he's one of the best at understanding player's values around the league. See his NBA trade value column he does every year. He is far better at understanding a players value than seemingly half of NBA GM's (but so are some of us here on jazzfanz.)

@tanking

The FO may be tanking (I still see it much different than what GSW did.. but meh) but the players will not be.

That should be obvious.

It is. I was just clearing up what those of us that originally went off about tanking were saying.

We live you hate. Step up and stop ****ing over-analyzing ****.

I agree with the sentiment that are young guns are betting than the pundits give us credit for.

...but I also think that our bench really is that bad.

I'd say that 25-30 wins might be in the cards. We'll see.

His Part 1 was comedic genius for any of you old enough to remember the classic "Midnight Run" movie. And if you haven't seen it, rent it.

PKM - this isn't a shot at you, but more a general "anti-tanking" rant.

Let's look at the facts:

Lindsey has said that the goal for Corbin this year is to coach a team that creates a defensive identity.

Lindsey has said that the wins might not be there this year, but they have a plan.

Lindsey comes from an organization that "tanked" by not rushing Robinson back, keeping Elliot out with mysterious injuries, and getting Tim Duncan.

This draft has three players that could be 10+ year All-Stars at the top.

For the first time ever, the Jazz aren't shooting for the playoffs, they are in tank mode. They didn't bring back any solid vets, they traded for monstrous contracts, just so they could get future draft picks, that if GS stays healthy, will be crap.

They have not made one move, said one thing that says their goal this year is to win games.

If Utah is 3 games out of last place, with five games to go, what makes you think they won't sit Hayward and Favors? Because of a contract? LOL. Those five games will have NOTHING to do with their future contracts.

Anybody who isn't a fool, would sit those players in that situation. You would be stupid not to. Ask SA how that worked out for them.

I'd sit them at any chance. Ingrown toenail? Tell them they sit. Blister? Why risk a career-ending injury in a contract year?

If Wiggins is as special as a lot of people think I absolutely agree and as you said in your post we are not talking about a half or even a fifth of a season just the last few to give us the edge with the ping pong balls. Was GS a better team this year than the previous year? Did they not make a good run in the playoffs?

Only have to wait til Dec for #2. Hopefully Will can be as funny as last one.

Lol
At first I thought you were saying that you will have to wait till december to see another funny post by franklin.

For real though.... can't wait till anchorman 2

Yes, but I do think there were some who claimed the Jazz would never put themselves in a position where they thought they MIGHT have a horrific record, which we are clearly doing.

Lindsey has been a breath of fresh air and surprised us at every opportunity this summer. I'm not convinced he won't surprise us more in the future by having the team rest even the most minor injury. He's proven that he sees what we see and he's got the balls to go out and just DO IT. We all know that if a bottom 3 record is within reach toward the end of the season, it would be smart to pull a GS. Lindsey sees that too, and I'm not convinced he wouldn't go for it after all the moves he's pulled this summer.
