What's new

Bill Simmons & Jalen Rose Jazz season preview

What?

Dude, are you high?

I'm sure he has every intention of building around what we got.

If he was planning on building around Kanter and Favors, our bench wouldn't be so bad. His goal would be the playoffs, not cap space and picks for next year.

He drafted his leader last year. When this year ends, he will draft his corner stone and get his coach. If Kanter and Favors work out, great. But they haven't extended Favors. They didn't give him big minutes. They didn't keep Millsap to help out. They didn't bring in a vet pg to set Favors up. They didn't bring in a big man coach to help out.

What has Utah done to show they are building around these guys?

He is doing two birds with one stone. Seeing what we really have so he knows if he can build on them or not. he has not made up his mind. If the players show up and get things done he will build off them. If not he will move on without them. just like every other team and GM.

They have given the team to them. That is what they have done.

I like you but I am so damn thankful you are not part of the Jazz organization haha.

You've totally missed what a big part of this offseason was about.

The biggest reason for what we did I'm sure has very little to do with the fact we are trying to tank or for any of the reasons you have mentioned. In fact, its opposite of what you are saying.

We didn't go and sign any long term contracts because we need to preserve cap space for Hayward and Favors. So we can sign them long term, and the same goes for Kanter and Burks. Signing a big deal for anything longer than 1-2 years would have meant we would lose one or more of the core4. We traded for expiring deals just so we weren't stuck with a long term deal that would hinder our plans. Getting the GSW picks was just a nice side effect of what we are trying to do. Which is keep core in tact. Which is the exact opposite of what you are saying.

C'mon Green. You are smarter than this.

Burke is Lindsey's guy. That's it. The rest of the team is on KOC:

Burks - lottery pick
Hayward - top 10 pick
Favors - top 3 pick
Kanter - Top 3 pick.

We should be competing for a top 3 spot in the West this year with those picks...we aren't. KOC isn't looking so hot right now. Especially if Burke comes in and lights it up and we don't make the playoffs.

Really dude? Those guys are all like 23 years old and younger. Look how long it took the best players in Jazz history to final get all the way (although never win)
I feel this is a ridiculous way of thinking

Lindsey came in and has done what every new GM does...get rid of the old and in with the new. Ty will be gone. He isn't Lindsey's guy.

Burke is his guy. Wiggins/Parker/the brothers at Kentucky, is his foundation. That's it. Lindsey has no loyalty to any other player. He isn't planning on building around Kanter for Favors. He is planning on building around his draft picks last year and this year. If Kanter and Favors find a way to prove they fit, great. If not, they will be gone as well.

lol

I'm glad that everyone thinks Utah is some lame place to live without a night life and a bunch of squares running around everywhere. The last thing we need is more people here and this place turning into a zoo with thugs everywhere. I'm quite happy with our situation. I don't need to live in some ridiculously overly crowded thug town.

Love it.

outside of seeing a Jazz game there isn't much nightlife to go around. Most restaurants close around here at like 10 PM. Nightlife doesn't always mean "strippers and blow" but man, it can get hard trying to find a decent non-chain place to eat at or something to do other than a movie after 8 PM in Utah.

That being said I hope clairvoyant Bill is right. And I won't be following the Jazz that closely this season because of their offseason moves.

Burke is his guy.

I just had to point out that Lindsey has gone out of his way numerous times to say that the Jazz had other options on draft night and credited Ty Corbin with being instrumental in getting Trey Burke to utah. I believe I even heard Lindsey say once that "Trey is Ty's guy."

And Ironically I'm Turkish...
The breakdown is amazingly good.
You can also just stay with "N S"

The real challenge is Ömer Aşık though... Everybody knows him like Asheeeeek but It's no way near.

Easy.

Ohm-er Ay-sick

Eeee-nus Can-ter

These turkish names are easy.

American pronunciations ftw.

I don't expect Corbin to be fired midseason, unless he doesn't play the young guns and goes with the bad vets. He is not expected to win this season but to groom players and get better. Utah is not the type of ownership to fire a coach midseason. I think they will just not re-sgn him next season and Lindsay will bring in his own guy. What's Rudy T doing these days?

All of his issues are his fault. He lost Deron, yes. BUT, he was given TWO top 3 picks. He didn't develop them at all. He was given a runaway sixth man of the year (Millsap)...he didn't put him in a position to be successful. He was given a #9 pick, who was very, very efficient...He couldn't get him to work with Jefferson. He was given a player that is balls out great at the end of games (Al)...He couldn't figure out a way to get the whole team involved in the offense. He had Devon Harris...couldn't make it work. He was given Mo...couldn't make it work. He was given vets that would be gone the next year, so he didn't have to worry about pissing them off (see Raja Bell)...he didn't challenge them. What exactly did Ty do, other than get more talented teams yet regress every year?

The Jazz were a borderline playoff team two years ago. Then they upgraded the roster, but their record got worse. When the Jazz were healthy again after the All-Star break, they went on a huge losing streak. The Jazz starters routinely dug themselves into big holes, the bench bailed them out, but he couldn't fix that either.

I thought Ty was going to get a chance to prove himself by making Deron happy...didn't happen. The he had a chance to prove himself with a new, running pg and high draft picks...didn't happen. Then he had a full year, and Kanter was a beast and Favors was going awesome and Mo was the pg the Jazz let get away...didn't happen. There is not one good reason why he is still coach---I take that back. There is one. The Jazz want to suck and don't want to pay another coach to suck and pay Ty. It is a cheap thing. That is the ONLY reason why he is still coach.

I was going to respond to your post until I saw that you are whining about losing Mo Williams, Devin Harris and Raja Bell. It is very debatable that the Jazz vastly improved their roster. Beside the fact that Ty had to deal with players trying to get their own. The Jazz have rarely sucked so I doubt they are trying to suck on purpose. The great Jerry Sloan couldn't win with Stockton and Malone neither could he win with Deron Williams either. So you expected Ty to turn Devin Harris in a champion. Yes injuries did hurt the team last year. Mo, Kanter and Williams all had major injuries. I guess that was Ty's fault.

He was developing the young guys while still trying to win. I would have rather started the rebuild last year but the organization was still trying to win. I agree that one flaw he had was playing the vets over the young guys. I wanted Kanter and Favors to play more but as you said he had "almost 6th of the year millsap" and almost all-star AJ to play too. There might have been a mutiny on hand if he bench the two. Your expectations of the young guys is part of the problem. Both Favors and Kanter were 19 when they came in the league both were really raw and needed some time to get their NBA legs so Ty brought the along slowly. Did you forget Stockton took a few years before he was up and running? Big men usually take longer.

You stated that you would be happy if the young guys met certain statistics? Well if they do meet your requirements are then going to give any credit to the coach? Probably not?

The Jazz were a border line playoff team last year too regardless of "improved" roster. Did you forget that other teams were also improved?

I nominate this as the most ridiculous post of the year. Seriously, I didn't know you could read the mind of Lindsey.

Can't stand them taking shots at the Jazz like that. Let's get our draft pick and then not revisit the lottery in a very long time. Oh and Bill, try and shower and put on some decent clothes before you go on camera.

As for the video, I thought they were pretty spot on. I mean Utah didn't do anything other than "we're playing the long game, we're going to see how the young guys develop, and we'll see how the draft goes next season." That being said Bill and Jalen both agreed that they had a bunch of valuable expiring contracts that they can turn into a player if they need to towards the deadline. Jalen thinks that the Jazz are better than 27, and they probably are, but they are the most unproven team in the NBA right now. Most uncertainty.

No chance that Corbin is fired, let alone being the first coach who is fired. I can see the Jazz deciding to not re-new his contract in the offseason and thanking him for his service but they won't fire him.

Not so sure. U can't say Dennis without balls.

Like West Valley City, West Jordan, Magna, Ogden or the Granite district in Salt Lake? Could go on, but will stop there. EVERY metropolitan areas has its problems. And don't even get me started on the miscreants that inhabit St. George!

Cedar City is clearly where it's at. Zion, Three Peaks, Brian Head, Fish Lake, Bryce Canyon...
