Bill Simmons: Prediction No. 1: Utah tries like hell to trade up for Jabari Parker.

The one thing we have is *possibly* enough assets to acquire a might be star.

It'd be like if we were at an arcade and had a bunch of tickets we won from playing games. We can either turn the tickets in for a prize, or take the tickets home and have a bunch of pieces of paper while we wait for them to miraculously turn into a prize.

Burks is not magically turning into a prize and I cannot believe that I would ever have to type that out for some.

Agreed.

Burks is a prize. A good one. Just not THE prize. Hate to see him go but if that's what it takes to land The prize then let me help you pack your bags Mr. Burks.

The fifth pick is moot

If true that they do like Randle. Then wouldn't just the 5 & 23 be enough? I thought I heard the 2017 class was as good as this one???

Sixers will ask for what they think it is worth to us. It needs to be considerably more than what it is worth to them. The league knows the Jazz will be willing to "overpay" with its current core 4 and picks for a potential superstar, and I predict we will do just that. Jazz are desperate for a superstar. Jazz will trade up at all costs, even if it is 1 spot for Exum. If they can't trade up, they will trade down. They are in no man's land right now. All the speculation about what they do with 5 is moot.

Guys, we don't need Jabari. Alec Burks is taking us to the promised land as soon as he gets to play 39 mpg with Enes and a new coach. There is no reason to trade for a real star when we have a possibly top 5 shooting guard in nobody's minds but a handful of Jazz fans high on man juice. That #23 pick is really valuable too. Don't even consider trading away a #23.

Is it possible for a Mormon to prefer Jabari independent of religious affiliation?

Of course it is possible for most people to remain objective/independent but it is also possible that some people prefer him simply because of his religion. Isn't that what Bill Simmons is saying. One of the reason why the Jazz covet Parker is because he is mormon and they should do whatever it takes to get him. I don't see why my claim is so controversial. There are plenty of biases that affect people's ability to be objective, religion being one of them, nationality another, school alliance etc.

I think some people are saying that I think all Jazz fans only want Parker because he is mormon ( I think that is what Simmons is implying) but that is not what I am saying. I do believe some people are influenced in that way. Just like some fans who get all crazy over a countrymen i.e. Carlos Arroyo and can't keep their perspective. It just seems like the Parker crowd is more than willing to sell the farm to get their guy than any other player in this draft.

We are not in no-man's land. If we stay at 5, then we will get a very good prospect.

I think Wiggins and Embiid will be the first two selected. Parker will be there at 3. I hope we get him; I hope we don't have to gut the team to get him.

How does the league know that the Jazz will do this?

Because Lindsey has shown he panics? The mark of a terrible GM/organization is to overpay and fall in love with any one player. What makes you think DL will "trade up at all costs." And if that is true, he won't trade down. Someone would certainly take Favors, Kanter, Burks, Burke and the #5 for the #2 or #3, right? That is "all costs."

What I heard from Lindsey is that he'll explore all options, whether that's trading up, down or even out of the draft. They Jazz will explore all options and then they'll pick the one that's best for the team. That's not the direct quote, but is pretty damn close to what he said. That tells me he doesn't have a stiffy for any player in particular. DL will most likely talk to every team in the league about numerous scenarios. And what is "no man's land" about 5th place? After workouts, Lindsey may very well discover a couple of players have worked themselves up into the top group, or close enough where #3 is not a whole lot different than #5.

Is ANYONE on this team going to be anything more than a solid starter? I don't think so. So what's the problem with trading some of em away to get a guy that we could otherwise never have in FA?

THANK YOU. One of the posters that truly gets it.

This is a chance we've not had in a while, and may not have for many years down the line.

We need to make a BIG PLAY, and go for the home run. Parker is worth it. Wiggins is worth it. Parker will be slightly easier to get.

I'm tired of following this team with ZERO shot to win a title. At least by adding one of the top 3 I can turn off the lights, and have naughty dreams of championships.

Parker is not going to get the Jazz a championship and just like Bledsoe and Harden they are very good players but neither are superstars. First of all no one even knows this is possible, it is simply Bill Simmons chatting up the draft.

Hey all you Fat Jabari Conspiracy Nuts. Check this out from Jonathan Givony of Draft Express...

Yes. Definitely not out of shape. RT @nsanba: Jabari Parker seemed to have lost some weight in the pics. Did it seems that way to you?

If he were a guarantee, then yes. Unfotunately, Parker is not, or he'd be the consensus #1, rather than a guy who could slip to 3 or 4, possibly 5 if the rumors of his being out of shape are true.

You gotta start somewhere.
