Not all drafts are created equal. Not sure if you're just tuning in, but the prospects available are a huge spazz (Valanciunas); a young chucker with a great body and a good understanding of the game (Knight); a national champion that is TINY and subsequently can't finish, isn't that fast or athletic, isn't a good shooter, isn't great at creating for others, and shoots first but has intangibles (Walker); A taller version of AK that is worse at shooting, ballhandling, passing, rebounding and doesn't have a real position (Vesely); and finally, either a coward or a moron from Turkey that nobody knows anything about besides his physical attributes and that he was once a very good prospect (Kanter).
Looking at the options, drafting a player with little in the way of offensive skill but EASILY the most impressive physical profile in this draft and an absolute defensive monster doesn't sound bad to me. Unless you believe every honky that comes along and says every guy from africa was born in the dirt and there's no record of anyone's birth.
I hate the idea of drafting him at #3, but no one else projected to be there excites me more. Knight could be a really nice player, Kanter might be Zach Randolph or rich-man's Rafa, Valanciunas MIGHT be really nice in three years. I don't like Walker or Vesely at all. Kanter and Valanciunas might bust. Knight is the only clear player there IMO, and he doesn't move the meter for me very much.
