Breaking News! Enes Kanter won't join the national team this summer

i know some turks and their pride... if he has no real reason to not participate, he will be seen as a traitor in his home country and will never ever be able to play for his national team again...

About being Turkish and responsibility, ahem I can't explain it really you have to be one of us to know:)

But it definitely won't be forgotten.

Turks take responsibility seriously. Generally I thought Turks downplayed and forgot atrocities so this must really be a big deal!

Sincerely,

Armenia

I kid, I kid!

Very strange if all this is true. He was a total workhorse at UK. Never left the gym (bb court and weights). I'll just say I'm not totally buying all this.

Perhaps now that his checks are written, he's a millionaire, and can speak the language/interact, he doesn't have the same desire?

I'm sure it's pretty common

Not likely. He has lived a rich life and it never seemed to phase him. Oh well .. we'll see. I'm just not one that's going to go crazy assuming the worse.

Didn't Memo have a difference of opinion one year with the Turkish team? IIRC, he had a training regimen he wanted to follow and the national team insisted he follow a different one. Could be something similar with Enes.

Now turkey is not in the Olympics correct?

Yes they are just playing warmup games for other teams. IMO the Kanter and gaining 20 pounds thing was an exaggeration. He probably put on some weight but not 20 pounds. Also why is playing for the Turkish team that isn't playing for anything important?

I don't think it's important to us, as long as he's not just posted up on the couch all summer. It seems super important to the Turks tho.

If true, this is a real dumb move. He's not going to get better playing not real basketball. He's done more of that than anybody and it hasn't translated.

Again, I must reiterate, if this is true, it's a really, really dumb move.

For somebody Enes' size, 20 pounds is like 5 pounds to the rest of it. He'll drop half that with a healthy poop.

Turkey will play a qualification tournament for 2013 European Championship. The tournament games will be against Belarus, Portugal, Italy and Czech Republic. Two games against each team, so eight tournament games. And before this tournament we will play about 10-12 preperation games, so there will be 18-20 games for us this summer.

That was a good chance for Enes to compensate his lack of game experience. Actually it was a golden chance since our coach would play him as one of our main players since Aşık and Ersan won't be in the team also. Enes spurned the opportunity and I think it's silly unless he has a very logical and valid reason.

Anyway, so it's not only petty warm-um games, our opponents won't be so strong but they will do everything to qualify for the Eurobasket 2013, and they are looking for an upset since Turkey will be shorn of many main players like Hedo/Ersan/Aşık/Onan/Tunçeri.

And we are angry at Enes, because he said he was gonna join to the team after orlando summer league but he changed his mind suddenly and dumped the NT without giving any reason or explanation.

I still cannot believe how he doesn't want to seize this golden opportunity to play at least 15-20 decent games as one of the main players of the Turkish NT.

Seriously, this is as disheartening or more disheartening as his summer league performance. He's either an idiot or acting on the counsel of idiots. And this is not new, playing professionally then trying to play in the NCAA was a dumb move. Not playing in Europe or China during the lockout was a dumb move. His decisions leading up to the draft were also poor, despite being picked 3rd overall.

God I've held my tongue on this board for months but I just can't take it anymore.

What do we know behind the scenes? Nothing. Are we now all Turkey nationals? Good grief. Why is this disheartning? He needs to take more time to study and learn the Jazz playbook and sets, the last thing he needs is a completely different system to **** with his head and playing style. He's still malable clay and the less outside hands on him the better! The Turkish team certainly doesn't see him as as valuable as we do. Even if they do like him, it is in a completely different sense. Whose to say this isn't Jazz recommended?

What I do know is that I'm sure the Jazz brass and FO are keeping constant tabs on Kanter. Because they can now since the lockout is over. So who gives two ****s if he's not playing in this. I'm sure he is training hard one way or the other.

The announcers at the summer league games said that he told them he had gained 20 pounds while in Turkey visiting his family.

I poked fun at Enes for gaining weight, but in a seriousness I think it was an innocent exaggeration made because English is his second (or third?) language, he is accustomed to the metric system not conventional, and he went to Kollege at Kentucky.

Numbers are the easiest things to translate between languages.

Amen.

I can understand the Turks here being disappointed, but personally, I'm more than OK with this. In a few years when he is crucial to Utah's success, we will all be glad he burned this bridge when he did, so he isn't off risking injury all the time out of a sense of obligation to his country. My apologies to the Turks for being happy about something that makes them feel sad. I mean that sincerely.
