Breaking News! Enes Kanter won't join the national team this summer

really? i heard half of turkey's population is behind him and votes for them... btw, i might be wrong...

Yea that's why they hate the government and the president. Over 10 years, they did all to shut the oppositions up, used the religious principles they made out for their stupid articles, broke the democracy out, became richer and richer while general turkish people were becoming even more poor. As it was declared in wikileaks , The Turkish prime minister's 8 different bank accounts in switzerland is nearly 1 billion dolars. So they just regret that they voted. And the president is just such a puppet who carries out all commands that come from government side.

And now his career is ended early, due to injuries. He should have rested his body more over the years, and maybe he'd still have a year or two left in him.

IIRC, Okur's refusal to play was due to the coach wanting him to adhere to the team's training regimen. Okur wanted to follow his own.

I think he still has a few seasons left which I also think he will not take. During the lock-out, he played for a contender Turkish team and did pretty good, but the NBA pace is just too much for his back problems. Euro-ball will be OK if it will be in Turkey in where the officials know and understand his health issues and respect it.

As far as I remember, he injured himself during a Jazz playoff game played in which he had played despite some pain in his achilles

Sure, but NBA big men only have so many miles in them. They carry much more weight running up and down the court, and this wears their bodies down over time. That's why I would rather they rest up and let their bodies heal as much as possible during the offseason. And just for argument's sake, I would also prefer the Jazz be on the safe side, when it comes to resting players during the season as well.

Most of the Turkish NBA players will not be with the team this summer. This would give Enes more chance to be on the court and become a focal point of the offense. He has been working on his game at the gym for several years. It is time for him to have some real game experience.

He will sadly become Turkish version of Dwight Howard or LeBron James, in terms of public image.

I'm curious, could you list all of the Turkish NBA players?

I am pissed. Enes didn't give a **** to find time for a simple explanation. His father wrote something that doesn't include Enes' reasoning. Like I said in another thread, We want to be successful in basketball arenas, and we (Turkey) need our best players to achieve it. In USA you may pick up players from trees, but that's not the case for Turkey. I, for one, want to beat the USA in finals in Olympics or World Championship.

You got a better chance at having sex with Oprah.

Eventhough I wanted to him to play for being a basketball fan, I do not see the hype about him not playing for the elimination round.

The teams Turkey will play against are Italy, Portugal, Czech Republic, Belarus and the first 2 teams will be advancing to the next round. I don't see us ( me being Turkish ) getting beaten more than 1 team there.

If he feels like he can get better staying and practicing with the team, all the better.

Only thing that will help if he plays with the national team would be playing experience and with those teams I don't think he will gain much. None of the other NBA players are coming and they are simply providing half-as..ed excuses.

The dude should not become a scapegoat like Mehmet Okur. As a Turkish basketball fan I have high hopes for him ( even some of the other guys in this forum think otherwise ) and I don't want him to be shunned away from the national team.

If it was 5-6 years ago, I would make fun of you, coz you definitely have no idea how Turks play like when they're motivated, but nowadays, with so many players just caring about the bonus they earn from the NT, I just don't know.

They could play as hard as they want, they aren't beating Team USA.
