When Miles shot "fast", early in the clock, he drew fouls on drives. Miles didn't shoot "fast" at any other time on the night except maybe one 3 in the early 2nd. Nearly every shot he took in the second half, and several in the first, were with less than 3 seconds on the shot clock.

Locke's analysis of this play leaves a lot to be desired. Greg is right. Hayward was effectively doubling Dirk on that play before Dirk even got the ball. His job was to stay home on Marion but be ready to double Dirk if Kidd made the pass (even then, he has to be sure somebody is ready to come out at Marion otherwise you live with Sap one on one with Dirk). Hayward got caught anticipating, and then lost Marion. In the grand scheme I could care less. Those things have to happen so Hayward can develop. But I'd be shocked if during the film session they said Hayward was right to overcommit to Dirk before a pass was made because somebody else was supposed to get Marion.
Miles is playing well at home after a bad start. I still miss Howard though.

I don't need to see somebody else's breakdown. I saw the play. If just lost his man isn't true. Then left his man under the basket on purpose is much worse. I can live with it. But to say Hayward was not a problem at the end of this game (as log indicated) is just not true. He made a couple of critical mistakes that led to this loss. Playing good in the 3rd and and being in during the run are much less important that making mistakes in crunch time. I hope he learns from them and gets better.
As for Miles tonight. I was glad to see Corbin pull him after he shot that 2nd 3 in a row. The 1st one was desperation at the end of the shot clock. The 2nd one was a definite chuck. I really like the way Corbin is handling Miles. He is getting him to attack the basket instead of just throwing up the 1st shot that comes his way. If he starts to chuck he pulls him.

There was one 3 near the end (4-6 minutes left in the game. right after the 30' shot that went in) that he shot way too early and missed. Miles was pulled within a couple of possessions after this shot. I liked that he was pulled. It was a contested shot with plenty of time on the clock. Other than that one his shots seemed to be within the offense or attacking.

Miles last 5 shots in the game were with less than 4 seconds on the clock. The only slight variation is that a few times he got handed the ball with like 6 seconds. He was trying to find lanes, but his job in those situations is to take the best shot he can to beat the clock. The reason Ty pulled CJ was Ridnour was heating up and he wanted Bell on him.
Let's be honest. The clown has a quick trigger. Last night 13 shots in 21 minutes. Compare that to 16 shots in 36 minutes by Jefferson, our go to guy inside. He was 2 for 7 from downtown, about average for him. He had only 2 assists because he seldom looks to pass. But the big problem I see is his defense. Clowns cannot move side to side fast enough. END THIS EXPERIMENT PLEASE.

The greatest problem with CJ is his Kobe mentality at the 3 line. If he can get some good screens or drive to the basket he is very valuable. Like I said, only Kobe can take those ridiculous 3 point shots.
He is the go-to guy when the shot clock is running down and the offense has failed. That accounts for a lot of his shots.

Throw Stockton in there too at a career clip of .384 after 3 horrendous years to start his career. His career high was .462 for a season. He took tons of shots late in the shot clock if plays broke down. And he was career .515 from the field. CJ? .424 Pretty crappy for a slasher who can supposedly finish at the rim. Iguodala, another slasher with a fair to poor 3 pt shot averages .462 from the field, so at least he can knock shots down and finish to make up for crappy 3 pt shooting.
Career numbers. CJ never had a season over 39%. Horny had 10 out of 16 seasons over 39%, with a career high season average of .478.
The late in the shot clock shooting excuse has run its course. Lots of perceived top 3 pt shooters take shots late in the shot clock, rushed and with a hand in their face. The difference is most of them are good shooters. CJ simply is not.

Comparing someone everyone says is our go-to guy late in the shot clock to previous go-to guys. The late in the shot clock excuse doesn't hold water. Plenty of go-to guys in the league get the ball late in the shot clock and still shoot a decent percentage. It is no longer a valid excuse for cj's poor shooting. He is simply a crappy shooter.
He is our go-to scorer off the bench. Either him or Howard. Compare him to Shandon Anderson or something.
I hate it when he gets into chucking mode, but lately he's really doing a good job of driving to the basket. Yes, I know, we've seen this fool's gold before, but maybe he'll be more consistent with it.
Yesterday he did get a bit back into chuck mode, but it felt more acceptable as he was also being aggressive as well. It's probably near that fine line of being good and being a ballhog.

Go-to guy is a go-to guy. Are you trying to say that since he is just the GO-TO guy off the bench he is somehow exempted from being expected to shoot a serviceable percentage?
Go-to guy from the bench...ok, how about Ginobili? Career .373 from 3 and .450 from the field. His best year from 3? .519 this season.
How about Hayward, since he was kind of our go to guy last season while CJ was sucking it up. Last season his only full season, he shot .473 from 3 and .485 from the field. His career numbers are .407 and .461.
How about Korver? Another go-to guy for us off the bench. .412 from 3 career, .431 from the field. Best season? .536 from 3. And he shot a ton at the end of the shot clock.
So let's look at Shandon Anderson. Another guy a little like Iguodala. Career .316 from 3, but .457 from the field. Best season? .511 from 3.
The point is, if you are the go-to guy, off the bench or whatever, then you won't stay the go-to guy for long if you can't shoot. Unless your name is CJ Miles for whatever reason. The late shot clock excuse is dead. What is the next one?
