What's new

Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

I'd like to think Luka getting traded is ultimately Karma towards Derek Lively for talking **** about Gobert in the off-season. Congratulations Lively, the player who helped your value the most got traded now you have to play next to another big without an elite passer.

The more I think about this trade, the more I love it for Dallas. Ballsy move that probably had to be made sooner rather than later.

They gave Luka a million chances. He showed them he can only play an extremely heliocentric brand of basketball, flat out refuses to defend and can’t/won't keep his weight down. In a word, he was unserious. He wasn't going to change. The Mavs simply had enough of his crap.

People keep repeating Luka's "just 25", but he's been in the league for an eternity and has accumulated a huge amount of wear and tear, partly because he's so often playing out of shape. If people think he'll magically turn it around and the rest of his NBA career will look better health-wise than we've seen so far… I don't know what to tell you.

You really see Luka as a healthy, efficient NBA player at 32 or 33? Yeah.

A few years from now, this trade will be seen as a massive win and a tactical triumph for the Mavs. Sometimes you just have to say "No más" when you still can.

The more I think about this, the more I am baffled by the deal from Allas's perspective. There is no reality in the multiverse where Cuban makes that deal, at all. I'm trying to let go of this nagging feeling the owners are setting up a Kansas City Shuffle to move the team, but they literally lost hundreds of millions in valuation alone with that trade. Either Silver ordered them to make the deal or the new owners are setting up something. I just can't wrap my head that Fat Luka was the sole reason.

Of course we're involved helping Luka move to the team every fanbase, including ours, hates the most in the league.

We couldn't somehow be involved in this by actually getting Luka, despite having infinitely more assets than the Lakers. Great job, Danny.
LoL .. but do we have Anthony Davis?

They built a team to win now and want to see it through. Luka wasn't showing the commitment level necessary. They traded him for a win now package. You can't win in the NBA without a top 10 player.

This trade went down awful fast. I wonder how many teams would agree to mortgage their future for Luka without a physical. I can definitely see star hungry LA doing that, especially knowing worst case they could just not offer him a contract next year and back fill with free agents.

Honestly, with the assets they kept, LA didn't mortgage much of anything.

This is crazy. No one could have imagined Luka getting traded and of course it's to the Lakers. The way they re tool with superstars is unreal. Hopefully for our sake and the future laker pick this isn't a wake up call for Luka to get into and stay in great shape. Unfortunately I think being next to LeBron and seeing the way he approaches things will have a positive impact on the way he approaches his body.

If losing in the finals didn't motivate him, I doubt this will.

The biggest question is who else can the Lakers get. Luka can't carry a team without help, at least defensively

Some ideas I don't see mentioned yet:

- Dallas probably wanted to get this done stealthily because of Lebron.

- Kyrie has been really good this year and they are trying to match his timeline.
