What's new

Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

Mavs wanted to get their D better and we don't have anyone to help them. Lauri is one of the worst defenders in NBA.
Walker Kessler is one of the best defenders in the nba

I tried to do it in the trade machine, it's hard to workout unless they want to give up PJ or Klay, which I doubt they would. Clarkson is easier to do with their salary available for trades.
Nnaji Marshall + Quentin Grimes works salary wise and keeps them under the first apron by 501K.

And during the finals Luka was exposed for the world to see and apparently came back from that and didn't learn the lesson.
Eh, I think the Celtics were just clearly the best team in the league. Luka got them to the finals. I don't think that is getting exposed
If the nuggets or thunder or whoever make the finals last season they also lose to the Celtics and I wouldn't think that would mean that SGA/jokic got exposed.
The best team simply won.

Hell, no one had the Mavs making the finals. Last year's playoffs exposed Luka as a badass.

I would think he could coexist with Luka just fine. Might not be an optimal pairing, but I wouldn't be all that worried either.
If you trade for Luka you need to shoot for optimal. They dont have a lot of avenues to improve their team once they max out Doncic on his next contract. They have no bigs. They have no high end young talent to develop. Their own picks arent as valuable now that teams know they have Luka long-term.

I mean, they have to make a trade right now because they don't have a single viable big man on the roster and LeBron and Luka's games are heavily dependent on having rim running PnR big men who can protect the rim.

Okay, but why the Jazz?
Okay but why not the jazz?
The jazz have the ability to take jhs without needing to add salary into the trade, as do lots of other teams so maybe there was no reason other than the jazz were the first ones to be talking to the Lakers and Mavs about trades. Maybe Ainge was simply the most active on the phones of teams with cap space.

I've read/listened to a lot of reactions.

Im just glad the Mavs are trying something that isnt "Let's trade our star for a huge asset base and tank to sell our fans hope down the line".

I think a lot of people are underrating Kyrie/AD as a duo and the Mavs supporting cast. Mavericks definitely need another move, but if they thread that needle, they can win a ring this year or next.

Lebron's defense has been really bad from what I've read. Trading Davis (not to mention Christie, who has been their best perimeter defender) will make them awful defensively. And Luka isnt even currently healthy.
Yep, so still probably LeBrons team. (That was the only point I was making with the post you quoted)

I wouldn't be surprised if he opts out this offseason and gets a s&t to either the Mavs or Warriors.
Would be hilarious if he went to the Mavs.
