Damian Lillard - Our best PG hope

The good news is that I don't think the top 10 talk is anywhere near reality so the Jazz should be able to pick him if they want to. I wouldn't have the balls to pick him in the lottery either. He's nice, but he's not going to be good in the NBA from day 1 and it's quite possible he might never develop the point guard skills he needs to.

If someone had the balls to draft Jimmer in the lottery, I think Lillard could easily be picked.

The highlight real posted in the PG thread make him look too slow, not athletic enough, and way too small to be a starting PG in the NBA. I'd rank him Jameer Nelson light.

Just some quick key differences.

A. He appears much more athletic to me
B. He is about 6'2, not 6'.
C. He has a substantial wingspan, I would bet Jameer has one pretty close to his actual height.

I think Lillard tops my PG list right now. That's mostly because Rivers hasn't answered the question of if he can really be a PG or not for me and that Marshall is just going to be a bigger, slower Brevin Knight. I'm not in love with Lillard, but his best attribute is the Jazz's worst (floor-spacing/3-point shooting) and plays a position of great need moving forward. I actually found it encouraging just how invisible he was for most of the 2nd half because he was really trying to get everyone else involved before donning his MJ hat.

How much of that was a product of hype though? The Jimmer love was crazy for the last few months that he was at BYU, and think NBA scouts/execs are just as prone as anybody else to fall into that trap. With Lillard, dude is actually going to have to play ball before his new NBA team's fans get behind him a little. Jimmer was a safe pick in some ways.

True. Jimmer did have a nice Tourney run that boosted his stock. Lillard won't even have that chance because his team was trash.

I get the feeling when his measurements come out, his wingspan is going to cause a stir. He kind of resembles Beaubois in that regard, and he's a total freak.

It's the Maloof's. Who knows why they fell in love with him or claimed to. It was a stupid pick at that spot then and now they know it.

Good post. I agree with everything. (which is clearly what makes it a good post)

If the Jazz end up just missing the playoffs and are picking around 12 or 13 in the lottery, they could do much worse than Lillard. I think the kid has some serious upside, and maybe one of the biggest positives: If he ends up being a stud at the NBA level, we probably won't be saddled with the worry of whether or not Lillard likes it in Utah when it comes time to re-sign him.

I bet Portland really wants him too. They aren't looking like a playoff team and need a PG.

I'm still in the draft Marshall crowd if The jazz go pg.

Just a couple things I saw from the game

1. I love his pick and roll offense a lot of pg's can be a little lazy causing the defense to keep him on the perimeter, which limits a pg's options. If the pg doesn't run a crisp route, the defensive big is able to run him off the the play. Lillard several times split the defense getting into the lane, and set up a teammate or get all the way to the basket.

2. Last night was the first time I've ever seen him play, so tell me if I'm wrong, but to me he isn't a great passer, willing yes, but he misfired on some really easy passes. Lillard may have had an off night in that aspect, so anyone who watches all his games set me straight if I'm off base on this.

3. Again I've only seen him play once, but with the game on the line, Lillard seemed to defer to inferior players. With the game close he just seemed to relax. If I recall through the first 10 to 12 minutes he had only taken two shots. That made me question if he has the killer instinct to finish games like a D-Will or CP3 The light didn't seem to click on for him till it was almost too late and Montana had built a big lead.

4. He is an actual pg, with a pg mentality I was afraid he would be the second coming of Westbrook. Always looking for his shot. The only question is, when the team needs him to score does he have that cold blooded instinct of a Deron or CP3, or a Stockton.

It seems that everyone agrees that the Jazz need a pg prospect, so you know that KOC is going to dig in his heals and declare "Best Player Available" to the point that he discounts the pgs.

So according to Murphy, KOC will most likely draft a pf/c and a sg/sf with his two first round picks and sf/pf in the second round.

Personally I'm looking forward to June.

Making this thread, and all mention of the Jazz linked to Lillard's name or Marshall's name or anyone else's name at this point is just plain ridiculous.

Haha, then why are you posting? You're only feeding the reason to create his own thread. Thanks for dropping by.

Haha, your right! I was posting to point out that you are all wasting your time on this. But you made me realize that i'm wasting my time. Carry on.
