that was literally my first thought watching that... RHJ caught the ball dribble drived and scored... how that an assist... some home cooking there on the scorekeep

I think this is a massive over-estimate. There have been a total of 404 technicals for the whole league so far, meaning each team has shot an average of 13.4. Rubio is on the floor for about 60% of the minutes so assuming he takes every technical, that's probably about 7 free free throws.

Unfortunately i wasn't able to find the actual number by googling but i did get a link to a 53 consecutive technical free throw streak Rubio had, which was spread over 3 seasons (his last 2 in Minnesota, first in Utah).

Technicals do affect it, but it's a really negligible amount. I doubt anyone's FTR increases by more than a percentage point at most due to taking techs.

Ever since becoming Lopo Endorse, Russell has played terribly and gotten benched in the 4th quarter of the last two games.
 
Plus Russell is a player who doesn't fit with the Jazz game plans nor the culture. This just a horrible trade idea but guess it's worthy of a new thread.lmao

when has the Jazz really been contenders? The two years MJ retired? That's really it. Jazz need to draft and develop players who fit the schemes and the culture. Guarantee LOPO that guy in dynasty modes who makes a trade after every single game.

The idea for Russell isn't to break the bank to get him. I don't project him to be some All Star. I just want a guy next to Mitchell long term who can shoot, adequately defend and looks to pass first. I also want to get a caliber guy we likely wouldn't be able to get in free agency.

He has taken a little step back recently after an incredible run but the kid can still play. Brooklyn is working with a pretty terrible roster and trying to figure out the Dinwiddie/Russell dynamic. Dinwiddie seems like an alpha type and Russell isn't. Dinwiddie took 16 three pointers last night. We already have that kind of guy in Mitchell so we need someone who compliments him.

We went out and got Korver accepting his limitations because we liked his fit. We traded a 1st for Hill even though we knew he only had a year on his contract. We used a 1st and space on Rubio even though we knew his limitations. I'm not really sure what Brooklyn expects to get for Russell, but I would be shocked if they kept him this summer. If we could get Russell for something like Neto, Bradley, Niang, and a 1st rounder, I think it would be wise.

I highly doubt our front office will pursue Russell, but I think we should be looking to see what transpires with him. As a small market franchise, we really need to buy low on potential great fits when we can.
 
@LoPo if you're not expecting BKN to keep Russell this upcoming offseason then why would/should the Jazz trade a 1st + bench filler for him? Honest question I'm just confused by the logic since he's a RFA this offseason.

In my opinion, we aren't a free agent destination. Getting Russell's attention much less signature would be difficult. If we waited until the summer, we would be competing with a bunch of the league who has tons of cap room. By trading for Russell before the deadline, we have his restricted free agent rights. If some team signs Russell to some ridiculous offer sheet, we could let him go. If some team offers him a fair deal, we could match. At the very least, we have the opportunity to try him out with the guys we have, see how he fits, etc. before just signing him long term.

I would be willing to sacrifice our 2019 1st rounder in the hopes that Russell is a great fit and we keep him long term. The reward is worth the risk in my opinion. As for Brooklyn, getting a 1st rounder (even a late one like ours projects to be) would be better than just letting the guy walk for nothing.

There’s just one problem. He’s not that good, and he’s not the type of player the jazz would target in free agency, so why on earth would they trade for him.

To put a baseball spin on things, Russell reminds me of a power hitter in baseball who when he’s not hitting home runs is striking out at an alarming rate. These are the most inconsistent players in baseball and end up costing his manager his hair. This isn’t the type of player we need on the jazz.

Like I have said, he isn't perfect. Rubio isn't perfect either, but he works for us a lot of the time. Russell is much better than most of the free agents we have ever gotten. Also, Russell is much better than most of the draft picks we have ever taken.

In light of what has transpired the last couple weeks, I have changed my stance on what I would send for Russell. I would keep Rubio because it's not like Brooklyn wants Rubio anyway. I would send our 2019 pick and maybe even Bradley and Niang in order to get the Russell deal done. Like I said before, I wouldn't break the bank for him but I think he is worth pursuing.

If we get Russell and he doesn't work out, we can move on quickly since he is a restricted free agent. If we get Russell and find out that Tobias Harris or Middleton wants to join us this summer, we can move on from Russell. However, having the option of keeping Russell is better in my opinion than just hoping we sign somebody else good this summer.
 
Trade for Kevin Love. That’s the move. The only move. Fits perfectly in offense. Gives Utah a Big 3. He is under a long term deal. Has history with Rubio.

Would require a big swing of Picks (at least 2 firsts) but it is worth it, unless Jazz want to continue to be super patient. But it must be done while Mitchell is under his rookie deal.

He shoots 2% better than Rubio with much worse D...
