What's new

Dennis Lindsey: We will be VERY active in free agency

I think we obviously will add someone, but that someone may be very underwhelming compared to the names being thrown around here.

This is how I felt last year when I wanted to bake the cake (other than the pg position)

Hayward, burks, hood, exum, Gobert, favors, lyles, booker, burke. That's 9. I was fine with ingles, withey, neto as the 10-12 guys.

I worried about minutes if we picked up a wes Matthews type. Of course I didn't foresee all the injuries.

Right. The difference for me this year is just we are one more year closer to some serious extensions and have one new rotation player that allows for a lot of positional variance. I also thought Lyles sucked last year so didn't view him as a rotation guy and thought we could improve on Booker as the third big. Booker as the fourth big is pretty damn good and if he is honest with himself it's kind of the perfect role.

We need to sell him on being our nick collison and having an after career with the team a la Matt Harpring.

I seriously hope Dennis Lindsey does well in free agency this year. He hasn't been able to bring someone in quite decent just yet via free agency. I find it funny when he says 'we're going to be very active'. I think he's definition of being very active is 'let's just sit on our hands until it gets to slim pickings and all the big names are gone and then strike.' lol

True.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we run at least two deep at every position. I'm not sure we will be able to sign any high profile names. Use your brains people.

List your 2 deep. Also bringing in another shooter, hopefully a 3 - 5, helps injury proof the roster.

Stack that roster DL. Push hard, now.

Neto and Mack shouldn't see the floor. Hill and Exum will see most time there.

Ingles shouldn't see the floor. Absolutely room for a shooting SF.

Absolutely room for a shooting big to stretch the floor depending on lineups.

Now is the time to push. If someone above loses time then good. That means a better player took that time.

Neto and Mack are the best 3rd and 4th string pg's I've ever seen. Ingles is one hell of a fourth wing. Fact is u won't find a stud wing that will pick us because he will find more mins on another team unless we way over pay. A guy like Batum wants to start not play behind hood or Hayward while also competing for mins with Burks.

Almost forgot, not only does he have to compete with Burks fore mins, but Hill will get mins as well at sg. There are only a couple players on the team that can't play multiple positions.

Start and be featured in Batum's case.

Another idea...

Send Burke to Detroit for Meeks (who they are rumored to be moving) and Bullock. Gives us depth and allows us to avoid using d league talent if there is an injury. If they don't work out both are on one year deals so no biggy. Allows us to extend/renegotiate Favs and Hill.

I'm not sure Bullock is better than Ingles, but he is different so may give us something we need some nights. Doubt Meeks would crack the rotation unless there was an injury, but could be a good fill in for 8-10 minutes if Burks or Hood miss time.

Batum isn't starting on the jazz

I know... he wants to start and the reason he loves charlotte is he is their featured guy.

We need a backup Center. Pliess wasn't ready last year and we can definitely find an upgrade to Withey. You can't rely on Gobert and/or Favors to be on the court at all times. Injuries and foul trouble would cause problems. And we struggled big time last year when Gobert was hurt.

Fouls never seemed to be an issue last year, and even with injuries, Whithy, a better than adequate backup center still couldn't get into games when Favors and Gobert got healthy. I'd prefer Whithy to just about any backup we could find in free agency.

Joe Ingles is a 37/38% 3 pt shooter and a very good passer with a high BBIQ.He has good value.
For backup Center,Donatas Motiejunas has alot of skillz and would get some backup minutes, moreso than Withey
